Valve Appeals Australia’s L4D2 Ban

by Jeff Marchiafava on Sep 24, 2009 at 06:07 AM

Yesterday it was revealed that Valve was caught by surprise when Australia banned the developer's Left 4 Dead sequel. Now word has come in from Valve regarding the rating limbo for the upcoming zombie splatter-fest. The developer has officially appealed Australia’s decision to ban distribution of the game country wide.

OFLC Australia refused to rate the game on September 17th, with Valve’s appeal following on the 23rd. Because Australia refused to rate the game, until the appeal passes the game is illegal to sell, rent, etc.

Every country the game is shipping to has rated the game M or 18+, except for New Zealand, the UK, and of course Australia. However, no rating refusal has budded up in the UK or New Zealand, the countries appear to just be taking their time.

Maybe Valve can convince Australia there's always a little more room for “copious amounts of blood spray and splatter, decapitations, and limb dismemberment." Metal.
