Test Chamber – The Game References And Punishing Difficulty Of Rise & Shine

by Brian Shea on Jan 12, 2017 at 10:47 AM

Cover-based shooters and 2D sidescrollers rarely intersect, but with Rise & Shine from developer Super Awesome Hyper Dimensional Mega Team, those two categories collide in a game that is both full of references to other video games and maddeningly difficult. The latest game to be published by Adult Swim Games, Rise & Shine takes the traditional sidescrolling shooter/bullet-hell genre and throws in a heaping helping of waist-high walls and puzzle mechanics.

Join Andrew Reiner and Brian Shea as they play through the first couple of stages of Rise & Shine. When they're not dodging a barrage of bullets and solving puzzles, they note the abundance of references and nods to other video games before facing off against a massive boss in an intense battle. Rise & Shine releases on Xbox One and PC on January 13. We'll have our review out soon.
