Blog Herding – The Best Blogs Of The Community (February 4, 2016)

by Game Informer Editorial on Feb 04, 2016 at 05:23 AM

I admire the community's tenacity when it comes to blogging! This week we've a good mix of blogs, reviews, and a community challenge response about a dope room.

Community Blogs For January 28 – February 3:

My Top 5 Most Disappointing Games of 2015
Jon_G caught my eye with a Chibi Robo image. Well, an image of what is a shameful attempt at a Chibi Robo game. I want to scrub floors, fellow community members. I want to have to recharge with my handy dandy plug. Sigh...oh well. What I like most about this list is that I agree with every choice Jon made.

Top 10 Survival Horror Games...
For whatever reason, horror games seem to get a lot of listicles around these parts, and that's just what StarterPack gives us. Goodness – his list brings back some great memories. Dead Rising? Silent Hill? Fatal Frame? Yeah, these are all freaky, awesome, and making me feel old.

The Hilarity Of Playing Multiple Games Concurrently
Rebekah Lang just wants to play games. Many of us do. But like some of us, she maybe went a bit too far. She is now stuck playing a lot of games at once. I've done this very thing (and am doing it now with Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II, Fallout 4, and a bunch of others).

What I Want From: Fable IV
Jojonny17 begins by writing how a lot has changed since the last "normal" Fable game came out. This is true. Heck, the change from the first Fable to the second one was huge. So where do we go from here? Well, our blogger has some ideas, such as a bigger world and starting out as a child. To be completely honest, I never beat Fable III (I'm still accruing that cheddar for the best ending).

Having A Great Time Playing Video Games While Commuting to College
GerardoExber blogs hard. This week we get to read about how he started college again...after a strike. You know what, Gerardo? We wouldn't mind a blog about that. Anywho, this avid gamer found a way to game on the go thanks to his 3DS, something we can all relate to. Heck, I used to cherish high school soccer bus rides. My tiny high school was at least 90 minutes from the closest team, leaving plenty of Castlevania time on the GameBoy Advance.

Writing Challenge Responses:

Community Writing Challenge: Letting My Freak Flag Fly
Thomas Loughney has a sweet gaming setup. If you read this blog you'll notice ample room for consoles, as well as shelf space that keeps the clutter out of the way. Oh, and did I mention the Super Metroid poster? It. Is. Amazing.

Community Reviews:

The Witness Review
The Witness is all the rage right now, and Enuo gives us a good look at what the game is all about. One point our reviewer brings up is that this type of game is something gamers seem to be staying away from. I would agree. It seems as though big, bombastic titles or small indie games are the norm. But where's the middle ground? This is it. He gives it a great score (I won't spoil it here; I want you to read the words within). Now excuse me while I go and try to dissect Braid's meaning some more.

Battle Brothers – A Brief Early Access Review
Platysaur is kind enough to fill us all in on how early access gaming is going. And you know what? Platysaur had me at tactical combat. This is a short and sweet blog that does just enough to get you interested and informed on what to expect from Battle Brothers, a game I had not heard of before this week.

Community Writing Challenge:

What's the game you've connected with the most? We save galaxies, command unfathomable power, and do extraordinary things in video games – but we can't really understand what that's like. We can, however, relate to some things. I want to know what it is you relate to. Me? I feel the depressing stab of every missed shot in FIFA, reminding me of a penalty kick I missed back in high school.

Community Playdate:

Sure, maybe only one community member showed up for car soccer last week, but it was an absolute blast. To keep the momentum going and get some others out, I propose a Helldivers playdate on PS4. It's free to those who subscribe to PlayStation Plus, so it should be more accessible. If we get more than enough people for one party, I'll assign a group leader to coral the next bunch. We will play this Sunday at 7:00 p.m. CST. Make sure to add me, Louiskensei, to your PS4 friend list and let me know if you're playing in the comments. Beginners and veterans are welcome. This will be my second or third time playing it (I'll familiar myself with the game this week).

I hope you enjoy the blogs! Please contact me via my Game Informer page or on Twitter at @LouisGarcia12 with any blog news or playdate suggestions.
