Time-Wasting Games To Play In Line For Star Wars: The Force Awakens

Waiting in line for something with your fellow true believers can be a lot of fun, whether the prize at the end of the queue is a new console, a concert, or – for many people today – a screening of Star Wars: The Force Awakens. As much fun as it might be to chat with your fellow fans, maybe you just want to dive into a game for a while. Star Wars Force Collection
This card-battling game has a social component to it, which makes it a great activity for you and your fellow Star Wars fans. Players can join Legions, which can then participate in space battles against other groups of players. Considering that Star Wars fever is at an all-time high, there are bound to be plenty of other Legions to take on today and over the next few days. Once you’re home again, there are more than 400 different characters and vehicles to add to your deck – including the fearsome Darth Vader! (Android, iOS)

Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes
A Jawa teaming up with Boba Fett to fight Obi Wan Kenobi? What is this, Jabba’s Palace? All jokes aside, Galaxy of Heroes features strategy-based battles with some of the galaxy’s most familiar faces (or in some cases, infamous). Some players have complained that the end-game content can get a little grind heavy, but as with most free-to-play titles, the first few hours are smoother sailing than Jabba’s Pleasure Skiff. Hearthstone
Blizzard’s card-battling masterpiece doesn’t have that LucasFilm magic, but it’s an incredible game in its own right. If you can shift your fandom from far-away galaxies to kingdoms filled with elves and dwarves, you’re in for deep battles against both A.I. and your fellow players. You can play against people online, but local matches may be a better fit while you’re in line. One word of advice: If you’re battling someone dressed like Chewbacca, you may want to let the Wookiee win. (Android, iOS)

Star Wars: Uprising
Star Wars: Uprising stands apart from the other Star Wars games we’ve mentioned so far, in that it’s an RPG. You’ll still get your dose of tactical battles, but it also comes with a more sophisticated story and character progression. Who knows? Maybe you don’t want to talk about Mark Hamill’s car crash anymore, and you just want a little peace and quiet. Or perhaps you’ve taken one too many plastic-lightsaber blows to the face. Regardless, Star Wars: Uprising is a fun way to pass the time in a day where that’s half the battle. (Android, iOS)

Fallout 4
Bethesda’s rich suite of character-creation tools lets you build the Anakin Skywalker of your dreams, whether your tastes lean toward Hayden Christiansen’s take before his Vader fall or Sebastian Shaw’s Freddy Krueger-meets-Humpty Dumpty interpretation of the character in Return of the Jedi. Once you’ve settled on the character, you can set your star chart for adventure across the irradiated wastelands of a post-apocalyptic Boston. It might not be a long time ago or in a galaxy far away, but it definitely has enough content to outlast the longest lines around.

Need For Speed
Make no mistake, Star Wars has featured some of the most thrilling flight combat pictured in film. Need for Speed’s pedal-to-the-metal action is close enough for this list. Maybe you could get a friend to decorate your car to look like R2-D2 or something? 

The Witcher 3
Have you ever wanted to shoot force lightning like the diabolical Emperor Palpatine? How about fire? If you don’t have your set on projectiles of the electric persuasion, Geralt may be just what the doctor droid ordered. His friend Ciri is a doppelganger for Princess Leia, in that they are both women.

Some Star Wars Trivia Quiz Or Whatever
Who is Luke Skywalker? How many mouths do Jawas have? If you have a Star Wars question, some guy in line is bound to loudly know the answer. Why not make a fun line game of it? Find a quiz, and watch as everyone politely waits their turn to answer. 

Billiards
That weird space chess thing on the Millennium Falcon isn’t real (duh!), but parlor games have been around for ages. Billiards is one of the best. You’re sure to make a lot of new friends if you bring a pool table to the line, so be sure to bring a variety of cues to accommodate IG-88-sized players down to the Ewoks among you. The community can be toxic at times, so watch this handy instructional video before you break to make sure you get the basics down.

I Spy
“I spy with my little eye, something that is… brown.” “Is it that Burger King across the street?” “Yes!” If your phone’s battery dies like Boba Fett, you have to engineer your own fun. Why not revisit this throwback game? Movie theaters are always located in interesting locations, so you’ll have an endless supply of credit unions, bus-stop benches, and… movie theaters to use as I Spy fuel.
