Blog Herding – The Best Blogs Of The Community (July 23, 2015)

by Game Informer Editorial on Jul 23, 2015 at 06:00 AM

This week's selection of blogs was a bit lower than usual. I get it: Everyone is playing Rocket League. But what we do have is a fun mix containing a controller review, tragic deaths, and much more.

Community Blogs For July 16 – July 22:

Fighting Games Aren't A Sport But Should Be Respected As One
Games featuring two avatars engaging in fisticuffs are insanely awesome, according to ShooterMan23. And they're also hard to get good at and should be respected for what they can accomplish.

My Top Three Heartbreaking Game Moments..(Spoilers..)
Bloodloss may have written a super-short blog, but it contains just enough words and links to ruin a perfectly good day. I can't quit you, Dom. Just can't. Where did all this dust come from?!

August Is Ace Attorney Month!
MightyMagikarp is writing about the Ace Attorney series for a month – and you're all invited. It's a series that is very near and dear to the floundering Pokémon, so he wants to write and read about the series as much as he can. Good luck!

Second Chances – Godzilla
Cru Hunter is correct: Godzilla deserves a good game. With some time and effort, the giant monster could find himself in a game worthy of his grandeur. Too bad the most recent release was such a disappointment.

Writing Challenge Responses:

Japanese RPGs: The Gateway To Becoming A Gamer
Adam H writes about how Japanese role-playing games – including Final Fantasy, Suikoden, and Xenosaga – are magical. He credits Japan with changing the gaming industry, but also his life with games like Final Fantasy VII (how many of us have a similar story?).

Community Writing Challenge: Dragon's Dogma – A Review Of Sorts
Sam_Lincoln has a confession: He's not really a fan of Japanese games. What he is a fan of is how Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen tried to fuse western and eastern game design into something totally new. He loves the world, and stands as one of his favorite Japanese games.

Community Reviews:

MEMBA THIS?: In Depth Review Of The Razer Onza: Tournament Edition
Member pariah gives the most in-depth look at a controller I've ever read. Pariah writes that the controller is everything he hoped it would be and, "is indisputably a masterfully crafted piece of tech."

Console Wars Book Review
Continuing this week's trend of reviews centered on items that aren't games, Timothy Repasky gives us his two pennies on Console Wars, a book about the blood feud between Sega and Nintendo. You know, back when Sega made consoles and Sonic starred in fantastic 2D platformers.

Styx: Master of Shadows Review: Shadow Related Pun
Lovemeorshootme takes one of the currently free PlayStation Plus games for a spin and finds it to be a fun but flawed stealth game. I too have started playing it and dig it, especially since I like Of Orcs and Men, the game it's a prequel to.

Community Writing Challenge:

Weird mashups. Rocket League is all the rage right now, and that's kind of odd seeing as it's a game about cars playing soccer. But it works. What are some of your favorite gaming mashups, or what would you like to see thrown together?

Community Playdate:

The Rocket League playdate was a fantastic success, and I'm hosting another one. Maybe it's because the game is currently free to PlayStation Plus members, but we had a good turnout (with only a minor hiccup in the party gathering stage). Member Lovemeorshootme is pretty much the Messi of Rocket League at this point, but we had a host of great players join us. So, come out and play this Sunday at 7:00 p.m. CST. Make sure to add me, Louiskensei, to your PS4 friend list and let me know if you're playing in the comments!

If we get enough people we'll split up into two groups, managing it via the comments section below.

I hope you enjoy the blogs! Please contact me via my Game Informer page or on Twitter at @LouisGarcia12 with any blog news or playdate suggestions.
