Fortnite Account Merger Delayed To 2019

by Imran Khan on Nov 30, 2018 at 01:35 PM

The saga of Fortnite accounts in 2018 has been a roller coaster ride so far. When accounts that were ever used on the PlayStation 4 were unable to be used on Xbox One, people thought it was just a glitch. The ban on PS4 accounts on other systems became much more explicit when the Switch version came out this past June, confirming that Fortnite PS4 accounts were locked to that system by Sony fiat. The furor over this became so great that Sony ended up relenting on crossplay, freeing up those accounts to work on whatever system they need to.

In the meantime, however, players had created secondary accounts to get around Sony's locks and made purchases on those accounts. Epic had promised the ability to merge accounts to put all those purchases on a single account, but is delaying that feature into 2019.

“Due to some ongoing technical concerns, we will be delaying the Account Merge feature until early next year,” Epic wrote in a blog post. “We want to make sure that this process is thoroughly tested and working properly before releasing it to those of you currently looking to transfer purchases from other accounts to your primary account. We’ll be sure to update you as we get closer to the release of the feature, which will include a web page on launch to help guide you through the flow!”

At the announcement of account merging, Epic was targeting a November 2 date. It's now going to blow past that by at least a few months. So if you are still waiting to combine your accounts to get all your purchases under the same name, you'll have to wait a little while longer.
