Readers Respond – Your Greatest Gaming Accomplishments

Yesterday, we asked what you consider your greatest gaming accomplishments. This could be a game that was particularly challenging, your commitment to finding well hidden easter eggs and secrets, or beating a game several times. Now, we rounded up many of your responses.

In the 90 comments we received, many of you brought up Dark Souls, Call of Duty's Mordern Warfare series, Gears of War, Bloodborne, and platformers like Shovel Knight and Contra. For some, the gratifying feeling of receiving a platinum trophy was among their most treasured accomplishments. Zebra3 said, "Demon's Souls, Dark Souls (1, 2, 3), and Bloodborne platinum trophies are some of the accomplishments I'm most proud of. That and the Terraria platinum. Took FOREVER!" LiesThatBind talked about how great a feeling it was to platinum all the God of War Games.

For AsheMan, beating the adventure game Myst in 72 hours was quite a feat, especially since he bought the game at launch in 1993 – a time before online walkthroughs and guides. "I felt like that was quite an accomplishment," he wrote. pestulio07 mentioned that he loved Mirror's Edge so much that he beat it 22 times. Mas7erBroda beat the brutally difficult Contra at the age of 7.

Captain Bruiesen: So many Gears memories. One of the best was during a match of Wingman on River, down to myself and an opposing player, each of us at the Torque/ sniper spawn in the ramshackle buildings that are catty corner to each other. We both had Torque bows and were hugging the wall near the Torque and the back pillars trying repeatedly to kill each other. Fully charging shots wasn't working against this person, so I went for the deflect. He positioned behind the upper pillar, I ricocheted a shot of the back wall, he rolled down the ramp towards the lower pillar to avoid it... head shot, and the win.

Anthony D'Eila: I'm sure this is probably going to be a lot of people's, but the first time I finally beat Dark Souls 1 was a big deal for me. It was a huge feeling of accomplishment after letting it own me for so long. Two years ago I finally said enough was enough, sat down and powered through it. Now the Souls games are one of my favorite franchises in all of gaming. Bloodborne was my GOTY last year and Dark Souls III will probably be my GOTY this year.

JonnyLikesGames: This is a bit of a strange one, but I felt super pumped when I finally beat The Lion King on the SNES. One of the later levels has a lava theme. That level had a brutally steep difficulty curve and it broke my spirit too many times to count. No joke, it took me ten years to finally make it through and finish the game once and for all. Was I proud? Relieved would probably be a better term.

Visrith: Honestly, simply beating Majora's Mask for the first time. The time limit used to give me so much anxiety that I couldn't make much progress in the game, and never once even ventured out into the swamp area. I would just do everything I could in town and stop playing. Once I was in college I picked it up again and was able to conquer it, with some dungeon help from online guides. I've since beaten it two other times completely independently, again on N64 and then when I got the remake on 3DS. This game literally meant having to overcome my anxiety, and it means so much to me that I got a Majora's Mask tattoo to remind myself to not be ruled by fear and trepidation.

Timbro: Completing every single level (light and dark worlds), unlocking every character, collecting every bandage, and getting every single achievement in Super Meat Boy :)
