Weekend Warrior 04/30/10

by Annette Gonzalez on Apr 30, 2010 at 02:00 PM

Seems the most popular title on the minds of editors this weekend is Super Street Fighter IV. Aside from the brawler, editors are revisiting older titles to catch up on dreaded backlogs. Which games are we playing? Read on to find out, then head over to the comments section and let us know what you're playing this weekend.

Jeff C: I’m wrapping up The Saboteur this weekend and plan on playing through Gears of War 2 co-op with Bryan. I might hop online with Super Street Fighter IV and get my tail handed to me. I swear, I was really good at Street Fighter II. I don’t know what happened. So sad

Kato: I'm slowly getting through God of War III one save location at a time, but this weekend I hope to really make some progress on the game. I'd like to clear the decks before Red Dead Redemption and Skate 3 come out, as I'm sure I'll double-team those two for a while. I've actually started up a new Be a Pro goalie career in NHL 10, which is kind of scary because I've never played goalie before. It's an odd experience. Stretches of boredom when the puck's in the other end punctuated by moments of sheer terror as I scramble around the crease. BTW, there are times playing God of War where I can't believe how bad I am at it. It's been a while since I played a straight-up action game – having played more FPS, third-person shooter, or action-RPG type games recently – and it's like I need to subtly recalibrate doing combos and whatnot. Weird.

Dan: I just saw an ad for an Electric Light Orchestra cover band called EL ‘N’ O tonight, and that sounds too good to pass up. Tomorrow I’ll definitely be at my new favorite bi-weekly Minneapolis event – the drinking spelling bee. It combines my love of beer with my ability for spelling, while simultaneously appealing to my cheapness (it’s only $6 to enter and you get a free drink for every word you spell correctly). As for games, I’ll stick with Super Street Fighter IV and Bad Company 2 this weekend.

Annette: I now have a pretty hefty backlog after having a regular stream of non-gamer visitors over the past couple months, plus shoulder surgery, so this weekend is all about catching up. Still trucking through FF XIII and Mass Effect. Otherwise taking it easy with lots of shoulder rest and icing that mf-er.

Jeff M: This weekend I’ll get schooled by the CPU in Tecmo Bowl Throwback (apparently I suck at this game), continue to scratch the surface in LittleBigPlanet, and blow up lots of stuff in Red Faction: Guerrilla. I might also get a little co-op zombie killing time in my with brother – how did family members spend time with each other before video games?

Phil: My guild in World of Warcraft will enter Icecrown Citadel once again. We’ve only got two bosses left to take down until we hit the Lich King himself, and with the new 15% buff active, hopefully we’ll make good progress. Outside of raiding, I might continue my replay of StarCraft in preparation for the sequel. More than anything, though, I’ll be devote my weekend to blasting through as much Alan Wake as I can handle. I’ve only just started this Stephen King-style thriller, but I’m already totally hooked.

Tim: Cruising through the dark woods of Alan Wake with nothing but a flashlight and a pistol sounds like an awesome weekend to me. That, along with a healthy dose of Super Street Fighter IV should do the trick. Also, I’ve been playing Pokemon FireRed Version off and on for a while, so maybe I’ll squeeze in some more time with that. Oh, and I can’t forget about the Halo: Reach beta. I’ll be giving that a whirl, as well.

That's it for us. What are you playing this weekend?
