Deus Ex: Human Revolution

Deus Ex Video Dev Diary Explains Audio Design

The gentlemen behind the new Deus Ex's audio, from the musical score to the weapon sounds and voice acting, star in this video look at the many soundscapes of Square Enix's upcoming sci-fi adventure.

I would never have thought to give Human Revolution a more natural, organic-sounding audio landscape than the original Deus Ex's electronic-heavy score because it's set 25 years earlier than that title. When the folks from Eidos Montreal put it that way, though, it makes perfect sense.

I suppose that's why I'm not an professional sound designer. Neither am I a stealth designer, whose take you can get on Human Revolution in the previous dev diary.

Deus Ex: Human Revolution comes out for PS3, PC, and 360 August 23.

  • Hey guys, IGN is giving away a copy of Deus Ex Human revolution, yet another opportunity to get this epic looking game free of charge!
  • First! Maybe. I think.

Anyway, me want Deus Ex!!! Now!!!

  • Sound design is tricky. only a few games have proverbially nailed it (battlefield comes to mind)

  • This game is already great. I know it.

If they throw in a remastered version of the original's title track, i'll be set for life. That, LoZs, and KZ2's themes are my favorite gaming scores of all time.

  • 11 more days just too long man!

  • Liking this game more and more. Looking forward to reviews.

  • is it just me or do dance floors in games always look silly as hell
  • It's great that somebody's actually putting thought into sound design for once.

  • This game has nailed almost every aspect of what makes a game great; good sound design, deep characterization, lots of freedom and choice, a believable world, how can this game not be great?
  • Anyone else think that Adam Jensen kinda sounds/looks like Keanu Reeves?
  • Like NEO-DARK KNIGHT!

  • wow, its like they actually took their time to craft every part of this game to make a title that will truly be among the greats.

  • This game is deep

  • CANNOT WAIT

  • superb

  • Seriously?  There is NOTHING but bass heavy electronica coming out of my stereo on a daily basis.....right now in the here times.

I was hoping Kidneythieves would be involved in this new Deus Ex project, but this does take place like 50 years before NG Resonance.  Some of you probably have no idea what i'm talking about.  Good! :P

  • Taking serious to the audio of the game? That's great! I'm sick of hearing clunky and not-so believable sounds in some of the games I play; it breaks from the immersion. Plus, the music sounds very original, and fits this game well.

  • Sounds good, the original Deus Ex had a great soundtrack so it's great to see a lot of effort has gone into the audio aspect.

  • Read the PC Gamer review of this a week ago, and it scored an insane %94! I can't believe how lucky we are to get a Deus Ex follow up about as good as the original.

  • Sound design = Hypnosis? ...you know, that's not far off.
