Majora's Mask's Skull Kid Will Appear As An Assist Trophy In Super Smash Bros.

He's a not a playable character, a point that director Masahiro Sakurai is quick to reiterate, but Skull Kid from The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask will be making an appearance in Super Smash Bros. on Wii U and 3DS.

In the accompanying Miiverse post for the screen, Sakurai says, "Here's a new Assist Trophy--the Skull Kid! I repeat, it's an Assist Trophy, not a new fighter. The characters announced on the website are the fighters!"

Skull Kid wearing the titular Majora's Mask will appear in Super Smash Bros. as an assist trophy. He will randomly appear to – I hope – drop a gigantic moon on the stage destroying everyone. The screenshot, posted by Sakurai on the Smash Bros. website, shows skull kid hanging out in Skyward Sword's Skyloft, which is just kind of cool to see.

  • I think what is more exciting is that Reggie might make it into the game after all. There we a few official tweets by himself and the director that if a quota of 100,000 signatures is met he will be included. Last I checked they were about half way. Exciting to see these little nods, hopefully a bunch more will make it into the game now that the story mode has been scrapped.
  • Oh what a tease...

  • Noice.
  • Sweet, now we know that that assist trophies returns, now bring bowser's castle in smash already!!!!
  • That is just awesome!

  • My hype train is off the rails. With all the hints about Majora's Mask and Majora's Mask appearin in both Smash and Link Between Worlds, maybe we'll get a remake announcement tomorrow?
  • So instead of putting an interesting character that people would actually want to play as in the lineup, they're going to instead use him as a type of prop? Whatever. The superfans will eat it up and find some way to justify it being so, but as a casual player of the series it seems to me like a unnecessarily dumb move.
  • Oh man, I want to take this as a sign. It seems like Nintendo is looking to revisit Majora's Mask. Here's to hoping that they remake it, or even better for me, a sequel.
  • I would prefer him as an actual playable character, but I guess this will do for now. Now please add Midna. Thank you.
  • Pretty cool hes in there at all..also damn his power sounds amazing.
  • Skull Kid looks fantastic in HD. HINT HINT NINTENDO!!!!!!!
  • Looks kewl!

  • I'm glad he's in the game, but it's kind of anti-climatic that he's just a trophy.
  • HD remake of the my third favorite Zelda please Nintendo.
  • This makes me want a majora's mask remake even more. It would probably end up being for 3DS, but the idea of a full HD remake for WiiU actually seems appealing after Wind Waker HD.
  • Cool, but not a new character. I'll rarely get to see him...I'll likely have items turned on for the first little while and then shut them off permanently.
  • Majora's Mask remake officially confirmed. Why else would he drop this huge tease?
  • I guess no Smash Bros announcement will actually grab my attention until they do something important and unexpected--Bayonetta, Wonderful 101, Eternal Darkness, Xenoblade Chronicles additions, for instance.
  • So that means that Mewtwo will be playable, or that a Majoras Mask game is in the works?
  • well, **** we're all screwed now.
