The lights are on
For years, I've been searching for the perfect game, or should I say my perfect game. I wanted an experience I would never forget, one that I could make my own. I've played The Elder Scrolls, Borderlands, Fallout, and many, many more, but I couldn't find the "perfect experience". I'd heard about Dark Souls, about how challenging but at the same time rewarding it was. I finally decided to purchase Dark Souls and it quickly became my perfect game, or as close as I'd get to perfect. Now it's time to talk about Dark Souls 2.
Taking place years after the first Dark Souls, Drangleic is the new kingdom. You are undead, and quickly learn that the land thrived until a curse hit, the curse of the undead. The Giants attacked, leading to Drangleic's downfall. This game takes everything that made Dark Souls so amazing and improved upon it. It was like a cake but had a new layer of chocolate frosting.
Many people's main reason of avoiding this game was because it was too difficult, or the story made no sense what so ever, or maybe even both. Sure, the game is difficult, but in a strategic sense. You had to find your own way to defeat a boss, learning the attack patterns, finding weaknesses, and more. and once you finish a boss, you get a great feeling of accomplishment that not many games can offer.
It is true that the game doesn't really have a complete story, but that's how it's supposed to be. With all the plot gaps, your mind sort of uses its imagination to fill in the holes, making the experience more personalized. This game also offers much lore. From reading about an item, to talking to NPCs, there's always a story. Everything has a background, or a myth. It's interesting to see whether a story a character told you is true or not.
The gameplay is similar to the original Dark Souls, but much more has been added. This is good because it means I can take my skills from Dark Souls, and use them to my advantage, but at the same time, there's much new techniques to learn and master, making it foreign, yet familiar.
As far as graphics go, this game is B-E-A-U-TIFUL! From the foggy landscapes of The Shaded Woods, to the dark towers of The Lost Bastille, to the burning structures of The Iron keep, to the poisonous pools of the Black Glutch, everything has variety. This game will keep you wandering what's next as you go unwillingly into a black abyss.
This is an amazing game and will probably be my favorite for years to come. The unique experience is one I'll never forget. I will always keep this adventure close to my heart.
