The lights are on
If you’ve been playing Final Fantasy games since the 8-bit era, you might (like me) have a soft spot for the sprite-based art style. The Final Fantasy XIII saga isn’t for everyone, and I have to wonder how much differently it would have been received if the games were designed as they look in this story recap.
The video tells the stories of Final Fantasy XIII and XIII-2 in broad strokes to catch players up. This approach is clever, as it doesn’t necessarily ruin the first two games for those that want to go back, but still provides enough context to get started on Lightning’s costume-filled adventure.
Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII is coming to PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on February 11. You can check out a hands-on preview here and a recent interview with producer Yoshinori Kitase here.
This looks like it could be a neat side-release. It shows that SE can still do 2D sprites in a cool way.
I loved all the FF6 references thrown in.
I would have played this game more than once had it been originally designed in this style...
That was amazing. Ya did good, Square.
Sad that this looks so much better than the iOS version of FFVI.
*claps* Bravo Square Enix. I may not appreciate much of what you've done recently, but this was absolutely awesome and gets me more curious to try Lightning Returns. Well played!
That was pretty cool. Never did get through 13-2 ... got lost in time :P
Not a huge fan of the XIII series, but I will give credit where it is do. This video was kind of awesome!
This video was better than Final Fantasy 13 and Final Fantasy 13-2 combined. Seriously, Square, please just get rid of FF13 all together. Hurry up and finish 15/ Versus 13.
I bet the story still makes no sense.
Wow I rather enjoyed this little 8 bit video and the 8 bit rendition of the music was cool too. Can't wait for the next game.
It's good for people to understand this video, if they don't understand the story of Final Fantasy XIII.
Does anyone else who played XIII wish this is actually what we played instead of the garbage we got???
Alright, so when is this retro game coming out?
such a cool idea, thank you
