The lights are on
If you’ve been playing Final Fantasy games since the 8-bit era, you might (like me) have a soft spot for the sprite-based art style. The Final Fantasy XIII saga isn’t for everyone, and I have to wonder how much differently it would have been received if the games were designed as they look in this story recap.
The video tells the stories of Final Fantasy XIII and XIII-2 in broad strokes to catch players up. This approach is clever, as it doesn’t necessarily ruin the first two games for those that want to go back, but still provides enough context to get started on Lightning’s costume-filled adventure.
Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII is coming to PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on February 11. You can check out a hands-on preview here and a recent interview with producer Yoshinori Kitase here.

This makes me miss the 8 and 16-bit FF games. A pretty neat idea giving gamers a quick recap.
This makes me want to go buy a super Nintendo... also I played the lightning returns demo...seems really good actually.
Do this remake Square Enix, I will buy.
Yep. Story is as bat $h!t crazy and nonsensical as I remember. Thanks Square!
Besides this game having the best battle system of all final fantasies it had a level of difficulty that the other games didn't have. I was always too strong at the end of The other final fantasy games but on this one I actually had trouble even with mastering the battle system. As far as the story goes. it may have been 3 separate stories but they all make sense. I can't wait to conclude the series I've played the Demo its like X-2 meets Kingdom Hearts meets Parasite Eve.
I have to wonder if the Final Fantasy games of my youth would be as beloved if they had the 13 style presentation. Same story, just presentation.
The sprites don't quite capture Amano's original designs, after all.
Can't wait for this. My favorite games of this gen are Final Fantasy XIII (and 2) and Dark and Demon's Souls. Entries in both are coming out within a month of eachother. I don't blame people for not liking XIII, but I do like them so happy days for me because a brand spanken new one's coming out in less than a couple weeks.
