New Developer Diary Focuses On Rain's Poignant Soundtrack

In addition to providing a look at the creation of Rain's musical score, Sony has announced the release date and price for Japan Studio's artistic adventure game.

In the video, Rain composer Yugo Kanno discusses his approach and goals for the game's soundtrack, which led him to collaborating with bandoneon player Hirofumi Mizuno. If you don't know what a bandoneon is, you should really watch the video. You'll also hear from pint-sized British vocalist Connie Talbot, who describes what it was like singing the main theme.

Sony also announced the release date and price for Rain. Players can buy the downloadable game from the PlayStation Store for $14.99 on October 1. If you preorder before September 30, you'll receive an XMB theme, five hand-drawn avatars, and a music montage made from in-game songs. For more on the game, check out the first developer diary, discussing Rain's somber environments.

  • music really can make the experience. I mean just look at Journey. This is gonna be a good one.

  • I wish this was coming to other platforms, Im loving this although i don't have PS3.
  • I wonder how long this game will be. Even if it's short, it looks to be worth a $15 entrance fee.

  • I really enjoyed the music they provided for that video.  Thanks for posting it, GI.

  • Holy eff that is ironic. Today, Google is celebrating the French Composer Claude Debussy's birthday. They have a doodle on their site inspired by "Clair de Lune"... as I was watching it, I kept thinking, "Wait a minute... I know I've heard this before. Where have I heard this before!?!" It was driving me nuts! Then I check out this story about Rain's music and all the pieces fell into place. I heard this wonderful piece in the previous trailer for this amazing looking game :)

Thank you, GI, for keeping my sanity intact. I would've been thinking about this for days! I thought it was from Eternal Sonata, which was super, obviously wrong because that game is about Frederick Chopin. Seriously - this was driving me crazy.

Rain looks better and better every time they show it. I can't believe that this is the same studio who created Tenchu. I don't know what kind of program Playstation CAMP is, but if it results in games like this, that effortlessly evoke some memorable fantasy stuff like Ico and Lost in Shadow, I'm glad it exists. And I'm glad it's looking, and sounding, beautiful. Can't wait for this release... especially since it's going to retail for just $15. Sony is awesome :D

And Connie Talbot there is adorable and has an amazing voice. Just have to say it :D
