Grid 2

Codemasters Unveils Grid 2

Update: Codemasters has just sent over some new screens for the game to go along with its debut trailer, and you can check out both below.

Original Story: When Codemasters released Grid back in 2008, racers immediately dialed into the game's tuned-for-fun handling, multi-discipline approach, and innovative Flashback feature (which has since been adopted by just about every racer out there). With all due respect to Codemasters' other racing series since then like F1 and Dirt, we've been anxiously waiting for the Grid franchise to return – and in 2013 it will.

Judging by the first trailer for the game below, it looks like we can expect all of the series' staples to return with a slick new sheen that Codemasters has been perfecting since we last saw the series. Fierce competition, different racing series, and a mix of real and fictional tracks from around the world will be just the tip of the iceberg.

According to CVG, Flashbacks will return, albeit in a new way, and multiplayer (which includes split-screen) will be separate from single-player – complete with its own progression system and usage of Codemasters' RaceNet.

We're also curious if the original title's career format where you hire drivers and court sponsors will also return, and if so, in what form.

A lot has happened in the video game racing world since Grid impressively made its mark, and we can't wait to see how Codemasters hopes to move things forward once again with this title.

  • HOLY SHNICKEYS. My wish has been granted.
  • Is this a European or Australian or Asian sales thing? I never hear anyone talking like they want sequels to these games, much less buying these games, much less Codemasters games. Not trying to be pro-American or anything, it's a legitimate question.
  • Cool. I never played the first one, but I heard nothing but great things about it. I'll definitely get this though.
  • I didn't know code masters was still around.I remember when they made bootleg games for NES that you could only buy on the home shopping network.Dizzy, ultimate stunt man. Surprisingly they were alright games.
  • First one was very fun.  Great controls and the damage on cars was very cool.  Looking forward to this one.

  • Man, I had honestly given up hope for this. Although I've since found Forza and consider that to fulfill all my racing needs, Grid was actually the first racer I went head-over-heels for so I'm still glad to hear the news.

  • Looks cool. I like playing split screen with mah buds.

  • Yes! I've been waiting for a Grid sequel for so long. Dirt was good, but Grid was better.

  • Nice! Another Grid, the 1st one was good I bet this 1 is gonna be even better.

  • i liked the first one.

  • Sounds good to me. With the fallout of games such as Forza, NFS, and Dirt common today- Grid 2 should provide a refreshing change of pace, considering there aren't over five releases in the series yet... ;-)

  • It's about time.

  • Like many, I'm looking forward to it. I enjoyed GRID a lot and can't wait to see it return. I'm quite disappointed about the removal of the cockpit view - that is not a positive message they're sending out to the community, like they don't care about a certain group of us gamers. They will have to convince me with optimizations and other features if they want me to let this go and still buy this game.
  • Holy *** it's about time!!!

  • cant wait

  • Nice!

  • The graphic looks awesome and neat!
