LittleBigPlanet Karting

LittleBigPlanet Karting's Track Creation Knows Few Bounds

Updated: Trailer and screens added.

Kart racer LittleBigPlanet Karting is certainly a straight-forward racer in the genre, but its track creation features make a difference.

To fans of the franchise, it should come as no surprise that apart from being able to make a highly customizable track to race, the game's creation features also take a page from LittleBigPlanet 2. Much like that game allows you to create levels that are outside the platforming genre, Karting's creation tools let you create more than just races.

Different win scenarios can be selected, rewards assigned for who places where in the race, co-op objectives can be created, you can organize treasure hunts and stunt levels, and of course, all kinds of prize bubbles can be scattered around.

LittleBigPlanet Karting for the PS3 comes out later this year.

  • Now all I need is a PS3...

  • Sounds cool. The devs are doing a good job of putting a nice spin on the game.

  • I hear it's more of a "level editor" rather than a full on create mode in the original LBP, unfortunately.

Still, sounds like fun and it could be a blast.
  • Glad, its modnationmeets sackpeople

  • Pre-ordering for Kevin Butler golf cart!
  • I could possibly end up liking this as much as LittleBig Planet.

  • I loved the idea of ModNation Racers but I hated the controls. This game could be better or just more of the same.

  • I'm more excited about Far Cry 3's editor.........

  • im about to download alllllllllllllllllll those plus games for free.

  • Buying it! i hate Racing games like Gran Turismo and Forza but love Kart Racing games Like Mario Kart 64, double dash and Modnation Racers! will love this for sure!
  • Yea, sonds fun, used t at e3 and totally agree

  • ANAMANAGUCHI! WAIT. if Anamaguchi appears in the trailer, then will they appear in the game? Like Sleepyhead by Passion Pit! If this happens, I will SO buy this game!

  • hellz yesss

  • LittleBigPlanet made a believer out of me after my wife bought it. I remember thinking of how childish the game came off. That all changed after about three levels. Been a fan since. Unfortunately, I hold somewhat of the same skepticism for this title. We'll see how it pans out.
  • So, is this R.I.P. for Modnation Racers? *sniff* I'll miss you, Mods.

But at least Sony put the same guys - United Front - on this title. So it's going to be awesome. And I do like how they evolved ModNation's racing and track creation. Now you can make top down, isometric, AND sidescrolling racers in addition to the traditional cart stuff. And the grappling hook? Brilliant! IGN also says that United Front is having internal competitions every week between programmers to lower load times - easily, the BIGGEST problem with MNR. Finally, they're adding in a proper battle mode, and perhaps boss fights? Could it be!?! Could someone FINALLY be trying to best 1997's Diddy Kong Racing? IT'S ABOUT F**KING TIME!!!

I love ModNation Racers, but all the improvements being made to it's spiritual sequel here are very, very welcome. Can't wait for this and Sonic Racing Transformed - Sumo and Sega's cart racer is also, easily, a better game than Mario Kart.

  • SCORE! Wanna pre-order for Kevin Butler DLC :D

  • Wait, am I the only one to notice the dual thermometer and the bigger pod?

  • Awesome, I will be all over it!  Sack Boy is my dude!
