Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag

New Trailer Heralds The Golden Age Of Piracy

The latest entry in the Assassin's Creed franchise takes place near the turn of the 18th century, during the so-called golden age of piracy. A new Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag trailer effectively sets the tone.

It's a heavily stylized affair, designed to quickly pull viewers into Black Flag's world. As such, it's a little light on gameplay specifics and in-game footage. We've dug deep into those in our earlier preview, which is a must-read for anyone interested in learning where the series is going.

The trailer also mentions a few notable names from the golden age of piracy, including Blackbeard, Calico Jack, Charles Vane, and Benjamin Hornigold. You may be more familiar with some of those men than others, but don't worry. We spoke with historian and piracy expert Colin Woodward about the foursome a while back, and you can read details on them (and much more) in our extensive interview.

Look for Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag on October 29.

  • I wonder what the story will be this time?
  • Mod
I hope we get a Jack Sparrow cameo!
  • Assassin's Creed has never had a lack of interesting settings and historical characters. A cohesive overarching story would be nice this time around though.
  • i hope this is edwards voice actor, the guy is really good

  • Excited for this game, but very skeptical as to the quality that will be achieved in such a short time. AC3 made me very wary (bugs, glitches, etc.) and though they've probably been able to improve on things that were already in place in that game (ship sequences), I still don't trust that the game will be polished. I think I've hit that point in my gaming career where I care less about the getting the brand new title, and am fine with waiting for a GOTY edition that has ironed out the kinks.
  • The at sea quest/battles was certainly the highlight of AC:III im hoping Ubisoft is making even bigger changes to keep Assassins creed fresh... But judging by the yearly release of the IP and it bearly being a year since AC:III im sure Ubisoft is milking the franchise like Activision milked Tony Hawks Pro Skater.
  • I really want to be excited for this game but for the last two years I've been hyped up for previous entries, even going to the midnight release of AC III. They've all been good but not great since ACII.
  • I hope the story that takes place in the future actually makes sense. I don't want them to ignore what happened at the end of AC3.

  • This is gonna be the best one since Brotherhood!
  • Can't wait to get back to actual Assassinations.
  • Even if I was excited for this game, I wouldn't buy it due to the idiocy that is Ubisoft's execs.
  • As much as I am an assassin's creed fan the main reason I'm getting this game is because of the whole pirate theme.
  • just hoping its better than 3

  • I hope this game sucks so ubisoft will finally get there head straight and build off of AC3.
  • ARRRRRGGGGHHHH ME MATTIES, I'm ready for Assassin's Creed 4 Black Flag

  • Sounds cool. I look forward to playing it.

  • AC 3 HATED and will return. I pray this one will not take 7 hours to get into.
  • Are they saying that pirates were Assassins? I'm done.
