Abyss Odyssey

New Video Showcases Gameplay

Abyss Odyssey is launching in the coming weeks, with a release on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC steering towards July 15. To help gamers make up their mind, Atlus has released a new gameplay video that’s nearly eight minutes long. The video offers in-frame descriptions of many of the game’s features.

The video is a smart way for Atlus to invite players in to what is fundamentally a challenging game to wrap your head around. Take a look at the gameplay, and share your thoughts in the comments below.

  • Reminds me of the handheld Castlevania games or Symphony of the Night. I'm liking what I'm seeing. The voice overs definitely sound like Atlus!
  • The video was well done. Got me interested in the game.

  • I read this too quickly... thought this was news about the Abe's Oddyssey remake.

  • I have to say, this is the type of old school side scrolling gaming I like to see. As much as I can appreciate the sprite gaming of yesteryear, I also like to see this type of gameplay evolve with the power of the systems today. These types of games appeal to me for the simple fact, that they took elements of gameplay from old school games, as well as try to add something new, and amped up the visuals to look even nicer than your typical side scrolling action games of the past. I think there is room in the industry for both types. Enhanced and sprite graphics. Of course, the fact that they have to be fun to play is the most important factor. This and Mighty No.9 are games I'm getting very excited about. I would love an enhanced side scrolling Castlevania or Metroid game in this form. It would probably be epic IMO.
  • This video was strange. Most game play videos like this have people who look like they really know what they are doing. While I know nothing about the game play besides this video, it didn't look like these players had mastered it at all.
