Hack 'n' Slash

New Hack 'N' Slash Trailer Is Totally Rad

We've been looking forward to spending more time with Double Fine's upcoming Hack 'n' Slash, and the wait is nearly over. The company says it's coming soon to Steam Early Access, and they've released a retro-style trailer to mark the occasion.

Fans of the original Legend of Zelda ads might recognize the video's general tone, but the gameplay is decidedly more contemporary. We got to check it out recently, and it's a great concept: Players explore an adventure game while "hacking" into the code and manipulating the way it's played. For instance, in the screen above, our hero could be changing the behavior of an enemy to keep it rooted to the ground while being attacked. It's a clever idea, and we can't wait to see more of it in action.

The game will be available for $14.99 on PC, Mac, and Linux in the coming weeks.

  • Can't believe I haven't heard of this before. Sounds awesome and that trailer was just magnificent!
  • "The only way to win is to not play...by the rules."

This is why I love Double Fine :)

  • This is why I really admire Double Fine as a game studio. Every game is completely different than their last

  • Love it! It's like a commercial right out of the early 90's!

  • HACK THE PLANET. Haha, this seems like a lot of fun.

  • This looks both intriguing and creative, which is no surprise seeing as how Double Fine is behind it. Apparently, the developers are very adamant that the players genuinely ARE changing the game's code. It's not just for show.

  • Games with this kind of creativity don't come from many studios. Double Fine is one of the few.

  • Sweet video! The game definitely sounds interesting.

  • awesome ad

  • That was the most glorious ad I've seen in a while.

  • 90's Nostalgia!

  • I still have my doubts about this game, but that ad was nothing but awesome.
