The lights are on
Reports have surfaced that developer Molten Games has conducted significant layoffs.
Gamasutra broke the story today, based on a tip from an anonymous trusted industry source. Since then, the site has collected addition evidence that seems to confirm that something is amiss at Molten. The story now has links to tweets from the company's director of technology confirming an unannounced, cancelled project and a post on the San Diego IDGA's Facebook page which states that the company has lost funding and has laid off its employees. The post, which is labelled as "Confirmed," also states that Molten is continuing to look for other means of funding.
Molten was founded in July of 2013 by industry veterans Paul Della Bitta (Blizzard), Jungwon Hahn (Blizzard Korea), and Blaine Smith (Sony, God of War).
Our Take:While it's not confirmed, there certainly seems to be a lot of evidence to suggest that things are not well at Molten Games. There's also another (sadder) reason to believe this report: these stories of layoffs in the game industry seem to be a near-daily event these days. If indeed there were layoffs, our sympathies go out to those who have lost their jobs.
