The lights are on
The history of the PlayStation is one filled with corporate heartbreak and and broken promises, and you can find out all about it here.
The latest video from YouTube channel and accompanying website Did You Know Gaming, takes a look at the history of the PlayStation and its near overlap with the Super Nintendo. Did You Know Gaming recently looked at the history of the Nintendo 64, which you can find here, and took an in-depth look at the technology of the Super Nintendo, which you can find here.

WOW! I did not know that....a Nintendo Playstation? Imagine that....crazy
Gotta love history.
Interesting stuff. Already knew most of it but each time I watch one of these Did You Know videos I learn something new.
You know I was really small when the PS was great Didn't know all that stuff.
The DYKG series is pretty fun. I actually frequent NormalBoots.com a lot. Between those videos as well as ones from JonTron, The Completionist, PBG and ProJared its a solid site and I'd suggest others give it a look as well. All of them, as far as I know, have youtube channels too. Fun shows, fun facts, good people.
I love his related video, "Worst game ever"
I'd never heard of "Dalmations 3" before that video. Jesus, wonder why it's never been brought up in the worst game ever conversations before..
I was "gifted" a broken Playstation from a neighbor (looong story) which I got repaired. I dabbled with some fighters and the first Tenchu but then Metal Gear Solid came out. Though Metal Gear is multi platform now (which is a good thing) the franchise has kept me loyal to the Playstation brand for years now and that is never gonna change.
That was very cool and informative.
Fascinating to think that Sega and Nintendo basically handed that generation to Sony. I remember the fallout from the Saturn's early launch, as well as the third party fallout from Nintendo's choice to go with a cartridge based format. I didn't know what to make of the Playstation when I opened it Christmas morning, but I ended up making a lot of memories with it.
That original Playstation power-on jingle made me nostalgia so hard.
I remember all this stuff going down back in the day. Was in middle school at the time. I still dream of the ultimate console of legend. Nintendo, Sony, and.....YES, even Sega. Join forces to form: Dreamcast 2! lol Dreaming aside, I would not mind to see Sony and Nintendo team up in the future. I still have a game from Sony Imagesoft that is for my Super Nintendo. It could happen again.
Informative video. Since I wasn't alive when it was released I missed out on all of this. Interesting to see the roots of Sony's console and the rise of Playstation.
This was a good video! Go Sony!
