The lights are on
According to a report by the Wall Street Journal, Microsoft is working on VR devices for Xbox One and Xbox 360.
The paper says through multiple sources that the company is working on a VR headset, and Microsoft has already filed patents mentioning virtual reality tech.
Sony is expected to unveil its VR headset for PlayStation 4 this week at GDC.

Our Take:That Microsoft is doing this is not surprising, but the devil is always in the details. Can it compete with the tech and hype headstart that Oculus Rift has? What's the price point?

Kinect + VR headset = True VR experience
Hopefully Microsoft makes 1 that's cross-gen.
I would throw all my weight behind the Oculus. It has some major talent working on it and is much further along already...just help them out for console exclusivity or buy them out if you're so interested.
awesome
So, I guess VR is going to be the "motion control" of this generation.
Just buy out oculus
That sounds like a great addition for the consoles
VR, so you can truly game alone. This is a product that can't be used to play on screen multiplayer games or split screen. All they are doing is creating the most expensive gimmick to date. Something you will use from time to time.
Why no price point for any of these units starting with Oculus. I have yet to hear how much any of these headsets are going to cost. Will you need one for every controller in the house in order to play local multiplayer? Will this only work with games designed for it? How much will those games cost? What about the best market in the world for this product, porn?
3D fizzled out before it ever got started. The 3DS is used more in 2D mode than 3D. If 3D is tough to watch for some people imagine VR. On top of that the biggest complaint about 3D is the need to wear the glasses. Now we have electronic goggles. This isn't innovation, it's bending over the consumer and stealing their wallet for another product to toss in the trash after a few years.
I'll wait for the holographic table to be released.
We have already created a society where people don't talk to each other and now it seems we are on the way to not have to look at anyone else. Complete virtual communication.
Not surprised at all, VR appears to be the next motion control, heck I wouldn't be shocked to find out that Nintendo is working on one as well. Can't really say I have much enthusiasm for it though, since it pretty much is only good for first-person games and, after looking at my game collection at the moment, I realized that not too many are in first-person. So unless all games become first-person, which I would not want, I don't see a reason to buy this unless it was really, really cheap.
Why the 360? They said they were only supporting for 3 more years I thought? What's the point in wasting time and money on something you plan to get rid of?
This is pretty cool though, working in conjunction with kinect I might finally get to live Halo.
If they can come up with cool ways to combine this with Kinect 2.0 it may make for some really interesting and unique experiences. I just want something awesome to play on kinect, microsofts gotta have something gamewise planned for it right?
This has a lot of potential, but it will most likely fail in the long run, like motion control. Hopefully Sony and Microsoft's involvement can help make VR more mainstream.
Why. Whats the appeal. So i can get a headache faster?
First the Wii with motion controls, now Oculus Rift and VR. The bandwagon chronicles continue.
Not to say I'm condemning or not excited for either MS or Sony's devices. But you can't deny a pattern forming.
LOL Virtual Reality is gonna take the same route as the motion controls did last gen. Some *** tack on, that won't become relevant until the next generation of consoles when sony and MS include it with the console and shove it down our throats.
Hurray, next, next gen is VR? *twirls finger*
I hope my article helped you and I need to link from you and you are welcome to cooperate with me. thank you very much.
