The lights are on
The crowdfunding campaign for the sequel to La-Mulana, a devilishly difficult platformer, has reached its Kickstarter goal. The campaign breached the $200,000 goal line with approximately five days left to go.
Two odd stretch goals have already been met, giving the development team a curry party and forcing the game’s director to eat curry three times per day for three days. The remaining additions, which begin at $230,000, will benefit backers.
At that level, more story elements that detail the events of La-Mulana will be incorporated. At $260,000, an in-game bestiary will be implemented. The highest priced stretch goal is $400,000, which will put the game on Mac and Linux. Handheld and home console versions are hinted at, but no price has yet been revealed.

Our TakeI expect we’re likely to see more developers head to Kickstarter to fund further installments of niche titles. For instance, I wouldn’t be at all surprised to see the Zero Escape trilogy conclude thanks to backers. I like this use of Kickstarter, because of credible teams with track records offering opportunities for better-informed backers.
