Flappy Bird Is No Longer Available To Download

Flappy Bird creator Dong Nguyen made good on yesterday's promises. Flappy Bird is no longer available on iTunes, or the Android marketplace.

You can still search for the game on iTunes, as well as the Android marketplace, but you will be directed to pages that look like this:

Yesterday, creator Nguyen tweeted that he would be pulling the game down in 22 hours, saying he, "could not take it anymore." He also said he wanted to be left alone, and that he had grown to hate the game following its success. The game has already disappeared from the number one spot on iTunes' free apps chart, currently replaced by a game called Ironpants. It's worth noting that if you previously downloaded the game, you can still play it and Nguyen will still be able to collect profits from the advertisements shown to players who continue to play.

You can see Nguyen's tweets here, as well as read about other surprise video game successes here.

Our Take
I don't think anyone doubted how serious Nguyen was about his tweets yesterday, but it's still surprising to see such a popular game disappear from iTunes and the Android marketplace. As I mentioned in yesterday's story, I still hope Nguyen is still able to find future success on his own terms.
