Valve Goes Virtual With SteamVR

Everyone has been focused on what VR games will look like once systems like the Oculus Rift finally release to the public, but how will we be loading up those games in the first place? Valve has an answer with SteamVR.

SteamVR basically functions like Steam’s Big Picture mode on a virtual curved screen in front of the viewer. If you already have a VR headset you can download SteamVR and test it out yourself right now. Tomorrow, Valve will be hosting its Steam Dev Days conference in Seattle, which will feature a series of talks about VR hardware development, and how developers can integrate VR into their Steam games.

Our Take
This is neat, but I suppose it's not very surprising. It makes sense that Valve would want to update its service to take advantage of upcoming VR hardware, and we appreciate that it's a free upgrade. We just hope Valve is also working on some original gaming content for VR headsets. That would be a real announcement.
