The lights are on
Today marks the release of three big games with major multiplayer components. Whether you’re stepping into the ring with WWE 2K14, sharpening your sword with Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, or checking your magazine in Battlefield 4, we want to know how you’ll be playing first.
Are you the kind of player that likes to immerse yourself in the story and get your bearings before jumping online? Do you prefer to get an early start with multiplayer to stay ahead of the competition? Maybe you like to mix things up and bounce back and forth.
Let us know how you typically approach games like these. We’ll feature some of your comments in this afternoon’s second Reader Discussion.
Generally I do the SP and don't really touch the MP. But GTA O changed that, I started online first and I have yet to touch the SP game.
I start out in single player. That way I can get a feel for how the game plays. The game may be one in a series of games but developers always tweak how the game plays. After that I go back and forth depending on if my team is playing online.
Singleplayer.
Single player.
I like to play the campaign first but more often than not someone talks me into getting online and playing the multiplayer.
I rarely play multiplayer nowadays. The only online MP games I play nowadays are Halo 4, GTAO, and Pokemon X.
I ALWAYS touch single-player first. I'm convinced by starting with that I can perform better in multiplayer. I love playing for the story and gameplay while really getting a feel for the game also.
I prefer playing singleplayer first, then after I get a good feel for the controls I'll jump on the multiplayer. I tend to go back and forth with the Battlefield games.
The only multiplayer I actually enjoy these days is call of duty, and i'm also liking GTA Online, even though its getting rather repetitive already. But all in all, single player is my first choice with every game I get. To tell the truth, most games I get with a multiplayer component within, I never touch. I guess its mostly because I'm not really into playing with/against people online unless they'are my friends.
I only play single player.
In the games I am looking for an interesting story and immersion. For me the competition on the internet is completely meaningless and terribly boring. Occasionally I play in co-op (Mass Effect 3) but I treat it just as a small (and quite unwanted) addition to the single player campaign.
I always play single player first to get a good feeling of the game mechanics and then I jump online...too bad the single player campaigns are pretty much meh! these days : /
Definitely single-player. It gets me accustomed to the game's mechanics and it usually has the story that I'm more driven too.
Single Player.
When I buy games it is for the story. Not for the multiplayer, but that can be a some times helpful added bonus.
I always play single player first. I used to be a big fan of mulitplayer but now that almost every game has it gets boring really fast.
I always go single player first, if i pay 60$ for a game on release day its for the story and single player aspect.
I will usually try the multiplayer in the first few days though as most games the MP is tacked on and dies out before getting a chance to enjoy it if you wait to long.
I'm a campaign junkie. The single player campaign is the main force behind my video game purchases. It's not that I don't enjoy online multiplayer, I guess I'm just from the old school when the single player reigned supreme.
I usually try out multiplayer so that I don't have to go through the tutorial...then I play the single player after failing miserably.
Depends on the game. I only play multi-player first in sports games, some fighters, and fps(largely with FPS being as I don't care for the sci-fi based shooters). In more engrossing games, I'm all about the single player and have no care for mp.
Always play single player first, unless the game is sold almost completely on being a multiplayer experience. Even then I'm likely to play single player first
I play single player. Call me old fashioned but I dont buy a game for it's multiplayer.
