WayForward Shows Off Unfinished Silent Hill DS Technical Demo

WayForward released Silent Hill: Book of Memories for the Vita last year, but its first experiments with Silent Hill began on the DS in 2006.

WayForward built a tech-demo which borrowed assets from Silent Hill 2, including the game's protagonist James Sunderland. It offered a single room and was built as a proof of concept. WayForward recently showed off the never-before-seen demo during a 24-hour live stream.

You can check out the archived stream here, where the Silent Hill chatting and showcasing begins around 6 minutes into the stream. WayForward also discusses its original ideas for Book of Memories. The original concept would have had the player switch between the traditional over-the-shoulder view usually seen in Silent Hill and the overhead view that was seen in the final game.

Our Take
Its always interesting to see these abandoned and cancelled projects. It's fun to imagine what could have been. I realize the final game likely would have abandoned James Sunderland as its protagonist, but it would have been cool to see a new game follow his further exploits. The game's ending certainly leaves the story open for further explanation.
