Call of Duty: Ghosts Will Have Dedicated Multiplayer Servers On Multiple Platforms

Call of Duty: Ghosts executive producer Mark Rubin took to Twitter today to address an oft-asked question about Call of Duty: Ghosts multiplayer. If you have been asking for dedicated multiplayer servers, you'll have them.

"I wanted to give a quick update on some of the work that has been done to improve everyone’s online experience," Rubin writes. "We’ve already mentioned dedicated servers as part of the overall plan to improve connectivity. Dedicated servers will be used on current gen, next gen and PC with Ghosts. And, in order to make sure that people have the best possible experience regardless of platform, location or connection, Ghosts will be using a hybrid system of dedicated servers and listen servers."

While not specifically mentioning platforms, Rubin implies that Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii U, PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4 will all have the advantage of dedicated servers. Additionally, Rubin addresses matchmaking in his post. "There is also some great new tech in the matchmaking system that will place players in matches that have the best combined overall connectivity performance," he says.

Our Take
Infinity Ward and Activision haven't always supported dedicated servers, in part due to piracy and cheating concerns. The fact that Call of Duty: Ghosts will have them across platforms is because of fan service. PC players in particular prefer dedicated servers, and Activision offering them shows an investment in that community.
