The lights are on
Microsoft is sending out e-mails to Xbox Live users to let them know that the next Xbox 360 system update will eliminate Microsoft Points.
As we make this transfer from Microsoft Points to to real-world currency, not much will change, except the currency used to make purchases. Your current Microsoft points will be converted to money after the update, and it's important to note that those converted funds will expire on June 1, 2015.
There are no plans to discontinue the acceptance of Microsoft points, so there is no rush to redeem codes if you have a few lying around. In the future, there will be gift cards available for purchase at retail locations for use online if you're wary of lending Microsoft your credit card.
You can check out the full text of the e-mail on page two, as well as a full FAQ on the change on Microsoft's website.
Our TakeGood riddance! Every time I write a news post about a multi-platform digital release, I have to write the game's price as it will appear on the PlayStation Network and PC (and any other platforms), and then I have to write a separate few words dictating the Microsoft points amount on Xbox Live. It's annoying and time consuming! I'm sure this is a problem everyone can relate to, and is likely the main motivation behind the currency switch.

When is the next update? November?
I personally am glad these will be gone. Microsoft points were probably the most unattractive thing about the Xbox Live Marketplace. Not only did it cause unnecessary conversion, but it was just downright unneeded. Glad Microsoft is cutting out the middle man and just going with straight currency.
Your money will expire? They have a bloody cheek. Spend it or we'll take it.
Well, seeing as how this "conversion" is already screwing people over [in the UK], I don't think this'll get very far if it doesn't pan out.
Okay, I guess. We've known this for months.
Interested in what theyre gonna do for the new xbox live rewards sept 1.
It took awhile, but it finally happened.
It always just seemed like a way to get us the players to spend more for titles that were 1200 ms points. I hated having those misc left over points that weren't enough to use until you had more to add to them. Movie rentals were annoying.
Saves the developers time for the dlc purchases as they have to convert these points into cash before they can make money. I think they were a major party in this decision.
the point system was thievery, it was like those ticket you won at fairs or arcades, you always remained with few and didnt know what to do with them while the sellers got the cash..
