The lights are on
With the breakout success of Far Cry 3 and its spin-off Blood Dragon, it should be no surprise that Far Cry 4 is in the works. According to an Ubisoft executive, we'll be hearing about the game sooner rather than later.
In an interview with Gamespot, Ubisoft senior vice president of marketing and sales Tony Key says, "We're totally psyched from [Far Cry 3]. It's a great brand, and now it's got the recognition it deserves, so we're clearly going to make another one: more on that soon."
Key went on to talk about the popularity of open world games, something that, with Assassin's Creed and Far Cry in its lineup, Ubisoft certainly knows something about.
Far Cry 3 was one of the best reviewed games of 2012, and recently Ubisoft has boasted about Blood Dragon's strong sales.

Our Take:Ubisoft sticks with what works. If a series proves itself in quality and (especially) sales, you're likely going to see yearly product released. I know gamers sometime complain about too many sequels, but I don't necessarily think that its sequels they have a problem with - it's uninspired sequels. As long as Ubisoft keeps pushing the series forward (as it did with Far Cry 3) or into interesting new directions (as it did with Blood Dragon), I'm glad they are making more of a good thing. However, there's always the risk of burning out a franchise, as I believe we are starting to see with Assassin's Creed's annual releases.
NO ANNUAL RELEASES! Flesh your game out, it took 5 years for a new farcry after 2, don't ruin a completely good franchise by annual releases. NO ANNUAL RELEASES. PLEASE.
Oh yes please!!
I see annualization in Far Cry's future...
They're gonna give it the ol' Assassins Creed treatment
I disagree strongly. While it was a good game, the game itself isn't quite as unique as one may think. Its just a broader open world with options than most other FPS have attempted. There is hardly any chance that this game will retain its personality when every other FPS will have similar concepts on board if not already.
That being said, I did like Blood Dragon a lot however, but its probably because its lack of touch with realistic portrayal and rather a visit to the retro art style of the 80's cyber flicks. The one chink in my reasoning would be that almost every sequel of this series have been different. If the next one is in an entirely different direction it could very well be the FF of FPS.
Far Cry 3 was EPIC I hope a possible 4 will be even better!
I really don't like what Ubisoft is doing here. I loved Far Cry 3, but we don't need a sequel that soon; they need to take the time to actually work on it to deliver the best possible experience. I mean, Assassin's Creed has been a mixed-bag over the past couple of years (Revelations was weak, and ACIII was mixed up) because they don't give enough time to their development teams to actually make something fresh and exciting. I'm looking forward to Black Flag, but I sincerely hope that they drop the annual releases. I don't want to see franchises that I love get run into the ground creatively because the company wants to make a quick buck; Ubisoft has a ton of different franchises with a lot of fans behind each, so why they feel they can release the same thing time after time is something I don't understand.
My friends and I put about 400 hours into the original Far Cry, and its still the best game in the series. As the speed of title delivery increases, the quality of the titles will decrease.
Since Assassin's Creed rushing I will not be surprised if Far Cry series follow too. But that's a maybe I don't know for sure but if it does happen Ubisoft can kill both the series or the see-saw tactic one good one passable hope for the best :/
Well if its as good as far cry was Iam sure il love it.
Far cry 3 was good, but to much of it felt just plain lazy. The voice acting for anyone who wasn't a main character was just awful. The side missions were all painfully bad. The multiplayer just felt to streamlined. The only thing this game had going for it in my opinion was the main story, which was phenomenal. Just wish it wasn't so rough around the edges.
Considering Far Cry 3 I probably will not be getting this the next one.
MOAR INFO, big fan of 3 and blood dragon
