The lights are on
Sega is seeking nearly $1 million from the bankrupt publisher THQ for money generated from Company of Heroes 2 Steam preorders.
Sega purchased Relic Entertainment and the Company of Heroes IP in January for $26.6 million as part of THQ's bankruptcy sales.
According to the claim, Sega says it's owed a total of $941,710.93 from THQ. Of that amount, the company says $508,877.85 should be considered priority in the bankruptcy because Valve paid that amount to THQ the day after THQ filed for protection. The documents list 20,755 preorders between September 2012 and January 24, 2013. Those preorders amounted to $1,345,301.29, but were reduced to the $941,710.93 figure following Valve's 30-percent take of Steam sales.

Our TakeHere's what news editor Mike Futter has to say about the suit: "As THQ's assets were acquired by a variety of other publishers, the estate of the once-mighty publisher had an obligation to relinquish all revenue rights to the dispensed properties. This suit is hopefully no more than a nuisance for Sega, which is entitled to presale revenues for Company of Heroes 2. Unfortunately, due to the bankruptcy proceedings, Sega still needs to contend with other creditors and force its way to the front of the line by evidencing the revenue obligation as part of the sale."

Sega want dat money
Well Sega deserves the preorder sales on the game. The purchased the franchise so they deserve the any and all revenue on the franchise. Sucks for THQ, but they put themselves in this pickle.
This whole THQ debacle is still getting worse. I completely understand why Sega wants and deserves that nearly $1 million it is owed. But as Mike mentioned, there are other creditors still looking for what they are owed. We shall see how long it takes for them to collect.
seems like every week some game company is suing another. Its sad the state gaming is in sometimes. I know its a business but it still sucks.
I hope Sega loses this case, I didn't know they were into necrophilia.
i wanted to bring a case against SEGA every time i got one of their games then i decided it was my own fault for buying games from them generic sob`s.
This seems kinda like a *** move on sega's part. I guess sega could actually use it and THQ obviously never will. I dunno. Either way it will probably take tem awhile before they see their $1 million.
All I can say is.....WOW!
I doubt this lawsuit is granted. Usually, when a party files bankruptcy they are nullified from any pending debt. Regarding preorders, I have no idea how that will work out. I'd like to see what happens next though. I don't even know what happens in a post-bankruptcy suit like this. It's confusing when you think about it.
sucks but yeah sega does deserve that money since they bought the ip n what not
They know THQ is like... gone right?
