The lights are on
Retro Studios, the developer behind the excellent Metroid Prime series, has been mostly quiet since the release of Donkey Kong Country Returns in 2010, but Nintendo is promising news from the studio soon.
In an interview with Official Nintendo Magazine, Nintendo's Hiro Yamada (who is currently serving a supervisory role on the Donkey Kong Country Returns 3DS port) said that in regard to Retro's new project, the company is hoping to, "introduce it in the not too distant future." It's a vague statement, but considering Nintendo won't be holding a major press conference at E3 this year, we hope that this means we'll hear something, presumably via a Nintendo Direct, before June.

I'm hoping for a 2D Metroid. Nintendo has a new top down Zelda coming out on the 3DS, so why not return to Metroid's 2D roots too? Retro has shown that they can handle a side-scrolling plateformer, so why not combine their Donkey Kong and Metroid experience into one game?
With that said, I wouldn't be surprised if it was a new Metroid Prime. Frankly, that would be the safest path for Nintendo to take, given their recent financial issues.
Can't wait to see what these guys have been working on, I'm sure it will be great. A classic styled Metroid game would be awesome, but I am open to anything from them really.
Yes! Can't wait to see what it is!
Hopefully this will stop the "Nintendo is doomed" crowd but who am I kidding. They were saying that the entire Wii generation.
It has to be Metroid Prime 4. IT HAS TO! After Other M, we need a blast of a title to save the trademark. Who would be better suited to do that than Retro Studios?
YES!!!!
Star Fox X Metroid, please!!!!
Great news, very promising!
probably metroid prime but zelda is also a possibility... I believe it is one of the 2
*starts shaking dice "cooooome ooooon New starfox.."
