Game Devs Raising Money For Orphaned Children

Two Swedish game developers spend their free time raising money for South African orphanages by soliciting donations on their Charitystream on twitch.tv. What have you done today?

Daniel Matros (DICE) and Tim Kjell (Rovio, formerly at DICE) started Charitystream in February. Their first “season” of streaming every weekday and collecting money for their mission raised over $1,500. The two traveled to South Africa (paying all their own travel expenses so that the full donations reached their goal) and worked with struggling orphanages in the poor part of the country.

There are worse ways to spend an afternoon than hanging out with game developers in a livestream, and far worse ways to spend your money than donating it to those in need. Much of Charitystream’s donations come in the raffles that Kjell and Matros run, where a sponsor donates something that viewers can buy tickets to try and win, so you could get some earthly rewards in addition to the knowledge that you’ve made the world a better place.
