A stretch goal for the RPG kickstarter presents the chance that the acclaimed fantasy writer may join the team.

Fantasy novel lovers need no introduction to Patrick Rothruss. His Kingkiller Chronicles books are two of the most praised and well-loved entries in the genre from the last decade. If you’re interested, you should check out the first book in the series: The Name of the Wind

For gamers familiar with Rothfuss’ work, it should come as exciting news that he may be joining up with the writing team for Torment: Tides of Numenera – but only if the kickstarter project hits $3.25 million. As of this writing, the fund drive is sitting at over $2.8 million with fifteen days to go, so it’s certainly looking like a possibility at this point.

GamesBeat highlighted the possibility of Rothfuss’ participation in a recent conversation with inXile creative lead Colin McComb, where the developer discussed the caliber of the writing talent connected to the project. “I’m a little wary about telling these people what to do. I’m really excited to work with them, but at the same time I think, ‘Wow, where do I get off telling you how to do this?’”

Torment: Tides of Numenera is the spiritual successor to Planescape: Torment, a fan favorite game that was hailed at the time for its immersive story, character-driven plotlines, and dark subject matter. If you want to see Rothfuss join up, here's your link to pledge to the Torment project.
