Take-Two Won't "Degrade" GTA With Biannual Releases

While many of gaming's top franchises - like Call of Duty and Assassin's Creed - have gone to a yearly release schedule - Take-Two doesn't want gamers to burn out on its storied Grand Theft Auto series.

Speaking at the Wedbush Transformational Technologies Conference, Take-Two COO Karl Slatoff said that even a GTA every two years would be too much.

Slatoff commented, ""Often times people ask us 'Why don't you come out with Grand Theft Auto every two years?' To us, that doesn't make sense, because Grand Theft Auto, every single time it comes out, is a brand new experience. You can't possibly do that in two years. And if we did that, our product would fatigue and the franchise would degrade from a value perspective."

While investors would probably like a GTA game every year to line the company's coffers, it's encouraging that Take-Two takes a long view of the franchise. It's also very likely that the release of Grand Theft Auto V in September will likely be the biggest game of the year.
