The lights are on
In a Google+ Fireside Hangout on February 18, President Obama stated that video games could be a good way to attract children to computer programming.
President Obama said that introducing computer programming in elementary schools makes sense because children nowadays are knowledgeable about the internet and video games, and this would drive passion in the programming department. According to the President, an education and background in programming could benefit children in later years, making them “job ready.”
“I think given how pervasive computers and the internet is now, and how fascinated kids are with it,” says President Obama, “I want to make sure that they know how to actually produce stuff using computers, and not simply consume stuff."

I've been saying this for years
Hm. Seems sensible.
I hete his policies....
Why doesn't Gameinformer ask him on a date already?
Sounds good.
This isn't a bad idea. Teaching computer hardware/software to kids at an earlier age would be helpful for them later on in life, even if they don't choose to follow programming.
It sounds good, but it seems more for middle schools and high schools though.
games for president
That was a cool statement and also very true. I think it's very important that programming is taught in schools.
thats actually realy smart. i mean my schools had computer class n junk but when i was younger it was always a mac. n when i was older they were way too old to do much and you got the same recylced word/excell/ basic computing stuff every time you had it .. personally even when i was young i was always bord with it cause i was more advanced. ( started using a pc about age 5 with MS-DOS)
Sweet
for once, I agree with this.
Sound off the political debates in 3.. 2.. 1..
As much as I dissagree with Obama and his political views, I can't help but feel he really is trying to make a positive difference.
That would have been really nice twenty years ago.
