The lights are on
An artist who goes by the name Arun Dhir posted this interesting piece of Mario art that imagines the art style as though it came straight out of Fez.
The cool art was called out on Reddit, and a commenter pointed interested viewers towards a Pixel Joint page that features more of Dhir's work.

"Mario Imagined As A Modern Indie Game" -- I thought that was Braid? ;-)
Mario on Fez
Strangely enough, making it look more like Fez is actually more interesting. The difference in tone makes it feel a lot less kiddy, imo. It feels more like it's quirky, but not overtly trying to like some official Mario games have (Galaxy, I'm looking at you).
That's actually pretty cool. I often regret not having that kind of artistic talent.
This is sweet.
Mario could use more visual diversity. Great controls and level design, but mixing up aesthetics would be welcome.
I would buy this...Nintendo, get on it!
Not very artsy if you use two existing things and just meld them in my opinion.
