Seven Games that Revolve around Numbers

So, I've decided to continue along the line of my more "out there" post ideas, and today's blog should easily represent that thought. It isn't a top ten, five, or even eleven- as I've previously done. No, it is a top seven, and even better, this top seven concerns games with numbers crucial to the plot, gameplay, or some other aspect of the game. Now, without further ado, I shall begin.

07] The Seventh Guest (1993)

The Seventh Guest is one of the better cult classic adventure-horror stories to use the whole 'amnesiac' player character thing to good results. Not only does it boast one of the strongest revelations in 90's video game storytelling, but it also has some literally killer atmosphere. And the number is of course in both the story and title itself, with you being the seventh and possibly final guest at a strange mansion...or are you the first?

06] Killer 7 (2005)

For whatever reason, seven seems to be a popular number in video game titles. Well, this Suda51 game also boasts an unconventional approach to pretty much everything, and seven deadly assassins of sorts. Talk about energizing and interesting, eh? Oh, and it was also very much an inspiration for No More Heroes.

05] Final Fantasy VII (1997)

Okay okay, I promise there won't be any more tittles with 'seven' in them. This game makes the list because, despite an equal number of people adoring and despising Cloud and several other cast members (but mostly Cloud), Final Fantasy VII is easily one of the more recognizable titles in the year-spanning series. Also, like X and X-2, it's had several chances to be ported as well as re-released and remade even. So yeah...seven is a lucky number I guess.

04] The Last of Us (2013)

Okay, so maybe the word 'last' isn't an actual number, but it does represent a quantity of something, and that is what numbers are meant to do, so... Mind blown, right? No, of course not. Anyway, it should be relatively easy to grasp why The Last of Us makes this list- after all, with an increasing number of infected in the world, there are less and less humans around not trying to kill each other or do other devious things. Well, therefore, survival and strength in numbers is often important...so yeah, numbers.

03] Shadow of the Colossus (2005)

So, if you haven't heard of this colossal cult classic, you should really go outside more often, or get on the internet, or play more games- one of those ought to fill you in more, maybe. Anyway, numbers are important and very symbolic in this particular title, mainly because it pits you against sixteen massive creatures known as colossi, and your only objective in the game is to find ways to defeat them in order to bring your beloved back to life. Seriously, your only goal. But it is such a moving game and worth experiencing. Especially the major twist ending.

02] Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine Doors (2009)

Well, obviously this game has something to do with the number nine, am I right or am I right? After all, it's in the title itself several times over... Well, anyway, aside from the very complex plot and some miscellaneous other stuff that I won't ruin for you- as the game is totally worth playing and replaying, nine characters with nine bracelets identify themselves with nine different numbers. So yeah, 999. Numbers. Stuff. Important.

01] Call of Duty: Black Ops (2010)

If you've played the first Black Ops game, then you'll know that numbers play quite a large psychological part in the story and gameplay, and even a minor role in the second game as well. That having been said, for those of you who haven't, I won't spoil a few surprises- but I will name drop the words interrogation and sleep cells. There you go. More numbers. Go do crazy stuff now.

Now, I do realize that today's blog has been relatively short, but I had a spur of the moment idea, wanted to get it over with in my semi-down time, and also have to resume my actual work shortly.
