Midnight City – Approaching Video Game Publishing From A Record Label Perspective

Midnight City appeared in August of last year with a video showcasing a collection of interesting independent games. The video inspired interest in the games on display, but did little to explain exactly what Midnight City is or what it does.

The shortest explanation is Midnight City is the independent publishing branch of Majesco. It seeks out interesting independent games and helps fund and deliver them to wider audiences (like Game Informer readers). In the same way Miramax produces riskier, lower-budget independent films for Disney, Midnight City produces riskier, lower-budget video games for Majesco.

Co-founders Casey Lynch and Doug Kennedy are approaching Midnight City from a record-label perspective. The two hope Midnight City will become a name players associate with interesting and worthwhile games of varying genres in the same way music fans might associate a record label with good bands, even if they have disparate sounds.

To date, Midnight City has helped bring Slender: The Arrival, The Bridge, and Blood of the Werewolf to fruition, and also helped bring Double Dragon: Neon over to PC.

Midnight City recently brought a handful of independent games by our office which we will be sharing previews for today. You can check out the links below.
