Here's What's Coming Soon In The World Of DLC

Whether it's on the disc, supposedly not on the disc, or definitely not on the disc, DLC is a major component of all current generation games. Here's a compendium of what's coming soon, and what recently released for the biggest games of the last few months.

Street Fighter X Tekken

Street Fighter X Tekken's first batch of DLC adds new characters (sort of) and new costumes (sort of). The character pack is the collection of extra characters that will be available in the Vita version of the game. The new costumes are swaps that allow Tekken characters to wear Street Fighter clothes, and vice versa. There will also be a number of free updates to fix bugs and expand the gameplay. The costumes will be available on April 3, with the new characters appearing shortly after the Vita version of the game releases. The free stuff will become available somewhere in between. Click here for the full rundown.

Soulcalibur V

Soulcalibur V's first update released on Wednesday and tweaked the gameplay slightly, but on April 3, you will see a more tangible update that will add new customization items to the character creation system. Click here to see a trailer covering the update, as well as a weird Pac-Man-headed fighter (seen above in all of his terrifying glory).

Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning

Amalur came with some DLC right out of the box (something gamers are big fans of), but on Wednesday Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning got its first real post-release DLC with The Legend of Dead Kel. It's got pirates in it, and I think that's all you really need to know. Click here to check out the trailer.

Final Fantasy XIII-2

Final Fantasy XIII-2 has had some coliseum battle additions, and a disappointing adventure starring Zazh. The next DLC, which is set to be available in May, should hopefully be a bit more interesting. We don't know many details about the content of the DLC other that its name, Lightning's Story: Requiem of the Goddess. We assume it will have something to do with Lightning. Click here for more.

Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City

Operation Raccoon City released on Tuesday, and while we weren't very excited about it, we definitely won't complain about free DLC. You don't need an online pass or anything. As long as you've got the game, you will be able to download an episode that takes place between Resident Evil 2 and 3 where players revisit the first time Jill met Nemesis. The DLC will be available for PlayStation 3 first on April 10, and then on Xbox 360 the next day on April 11. Click here for more details.

Asura’s Wrath

We're not sure how much it is going to be, or when it is coming, but Asura's Wrath is getting some interesting DLC in the future. There will be episodes that Capcom promises will fill in some of the story gaps in the game, and they will have an animated art style that is different from the main game. You'll also get a chance to take on Ryu from Street Fighter in a one-on-one fight as Asura, as well. Click here for more info, and some screens from both of the aforementioned additions.

Saint’s Row: The Third

Saint's Row: The Third has already had quite a few DLC offerings with Genki Bowl VII and Gangstas In Space, and the last promised expansion with The Trouble With Clones, released on Tuesday, and we liked it. This is likely going to be it as far as DLC for Saint's Row: The Third goes.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3

Modern Warfare 3 is making good on its promise of monthly DLC, and that is going to keep going strong until September, which will be just in time for the next Call of Duty game to release. Click here to see Modern Warfare 3's complete DLC schedule.

Battlefield 3

The Battlefield 3 DLC space has been quiet since the release of Back to Karkand, but Battlefield 3 developer DICE released a bunch of new information recently. The Close Quarters map pack will release in June, offering smaller maps for more intense gunfights. DICE is also in talks with Microsoft and Sony to allow players to rent servers and manage their own games. There are two more map packs in the works as well. Armored Kill should be available in the fall, and it will offer the largest map in Battlefield history, and then in the winter we will also get the End Game map pack, a collection of maps that we currently know nothing about. Click here for more information on all the aforementioned DLC.

Mass Effect 3

There are no specific details about what future Mass Effect 3 DLC will entail, but we know that something should be coming eventually. Before the game even released, Mass Effect 3 associate producer Mike Gamble was cautioning players not to delete their save files for future DLC, and executive producer Casey Hudson recently said, "This is not the last you’ll hear of Commander Shepard." We're not sure what it will be, but something is definitely being worked on.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

No new details on Skyrim DLC, other than the promise that when it does exist, it will exist on the Xbox 360 first.
