Since the announcement of the next generation consoles for Microsoft and Sony, people have been asking when they can expect to get their hands on them. As of yet, no confirmed date has been given, but a recent deal announced by Gamestop may help to pinpoint the release date. Reportedly, Gamestop will offer a $50 trade-in bonus on select current generation games toward an upgrade to the Xbox One or Playstation 4 versions. These games are: Activision's Call of Duty: Ghosts, EA's Madden 25, FIFA 14, and Battlefield 4 and Ubisoft's Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag.

Interestingly enough, the last game from that list to release will be Call of Duty: Ghosts, on November 5th. Also interesting is the absence of Ubisoft's Watch Dogs, which is being heavily advertised as a cross-generational game, and is scheduled to release on November 19th. Given Call of Duty's involvement in this deal, it is safe to bet that the consoles will not release on or before the 5th, and Watch Dogs' absence means that the consoles will launch on or before the 19th.

Yet, if one goes to Gamestop's website and looks at upcoming games for both the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360, they will find that no games are scheduled to release on the 12th of November, which is incredibly odd for the holiday season. Given this evidence, it is my strong opinion that this is the week that we can expect the launch of these consoles.

I have reached out to Microsoft and Sony for comment, but given my status as a community blogger, I doubt I'll hear anything other than crickets.
