Everybody has their own personal list of who they think are the right developers for specific franchises. Some of my favorite franchises have either fallen into obscurity, or never truly had a chance to shine. Here's my personal list of franchises being placed in the hands of the right developers:

Halo 5: Guardians

Franchise: Halo | Developer: 4A Games

While the multiplayer for Halo 5: Guardians might have been an improvement over Halo 4, the single player campaign certainly was NOT. For the longest time, my least favorite story from any of the Halo games was Halo 2. Halo 5: Guardians went to dark depths I never thought 343 would ever take the property, shaking my confidence in them with Halo 6.

4A Games, known for Metro: 2033 and Metro: Last Light, is the first FPS studio in years to reignite my passion for narrative-driven shooters. Not only are they great with developing a compelling plot that constantly surprises, but they are also experts when it comes to graphical fidelity, set pieces, and some of the best gunplay you can find in any game.

The Halo franchise is in desperate need of fresh eyes, and I think a studio not so closely tied to the property could bring a lot of new and refreshing innovations to our favorite spartan.

Fable Legends

Franchise: Fable | Developer: CD Projekt Red

Fable 1 is one of my favorite RPGs of all time. Its sequels were also pretty good, although it was clear Lionhead was suffering from creativity fatigue and short deadlines. Everything went downhill after Fable 3, with the exception of Fable Anniversary being an excellent remake of Fable 1. This is an amazing franchise that had a premature death, and I can only hope Xbox already has a new studio working on Fable 4.

My personal pick for the right studio would be CDPR. Not only have they shown their excellence in storytelling, RPG design, side quest development, and open world design, but they also have a combat system that would fit right at home with the Fable series. I could only imagine what a potential Fable 4 could look like in the hands of a studio as capable as CDPR.

Crackdown 3

Franchise: Crackdown | Developer: Avalanche Studios

No one ever expected Crackdown 1 to be good. If you were like me, you merely bought the game for your guaranteed access to the Halo 3 beta. It turns out, Crackdown 1 was actually really fun as well! I didn't play the second game, in part because Realtime Worlds didn't develop it, and I also heard terrible things about it. Nonetheless, I was interested in Crackdown 3, but its constant delays and the absence of any talk regarding the cloud-powered, procedural destruction in competitive multiplayer have me concerned.

I think it's a no-brainer that Avalanche Studios is a match made in heaven for the Crackdown franchise. Nobody does destruction better than Avalanche Studios with Just Cause, and nonstop destruction is what we absolutely want with a new Crackdown game. Perhaps Crackdown 3 will still be the game many fans want, but there isn't a better studio more suited for this kind of game than Avalanche.

Mobile Suit Gundam: Battle Operation

Franchise: Gundam | Developer: Respawn Entertainment

While I'm very much looking forward to its sequel this year, I do have some concerns with its predecessor having a F2P model that was less than friendly to gamers. The game also didn't have a proper single player campaign, which meant the game lacked variety if you wanted a break from competitive multiplayer. The controls could also be tighter and more refined, but now I'm just nitpicking.

Respawn Entertainment has already proven they can handle a competent shooter and a mech game. The first game was a hit, and the second game continued to improve on the foundation the first one started. That being said, I think Respawn could find more success and potentially a larger audience with one of the biggest mecha IPs on the planet. I could only imagine how intense and amazing a Gundam game with the Titanfall formula would feel.

Project Ragtag

Star Wars 1313

Franchise: Star Wars | Developer: Rocksteady Studios

I don't think any other franchise has seen more game cancellations than Star Wars. Whether it's because of ineptitude on the part of the former LucasArts, or now because of Electronic Arts, it seems great Star Wars games rarely ever come to fruition. Project Ragtag and Star Wars 1313 are two of a long list of canceled Star Wars games that could have truly been something special.

With Rocksteady allegedly being done with the Batman franchise, I'd like to see the studio take a crack at Star Wars, rather than Superman or another superhero. Imagine what their legendary free flow combat system could do for lightsaber combat in a large open world. Even EA's CEO recognized Rocksteady's genius with the Batman property. Much like Avalanche Studios is the perfect match for Crackdown, I believe Rocksteady is the perfect match for Star Wars.

Mega Man 11

Franchise: Mega Man | Developer: Nintendo EPD

Much like Mario and Zelda, Mega Man is a very old franchise. Unlike Mario and Zelda, Mega Man refuses to evolve or attempt anything new. Capcom is absolutely running this beloved property into the ground, especially with yet another retro side scroller trying to prey off of nostalgia alone. I have zero interest in Mega Man 11, because it just doesn't appeal to me anymore. It's a series with an identity crisis, and I fear that could mean the worst for the future of the franchise.

Regardless of how one feels about Breath of the Wild or Odyssey, no one can say Nintendo is afraid to try new things. Sometimes they work. Sometimes they don't. I would love to see a Mega Man game in the style of Breath of the Wild. Being able to complete bosses in any order that you want. Having an open world environment leading to all sorts of possibilities for exploration and platforming. Honestly, I don't understand why Capcom can't see this is a direction that a lot of Mega Man fans would love to see the series go towards.

These are just a number of franchises that I believe could benefit from direction under a particular studio. How does your list differ? Do you disagree regarding some of my selections? Feel free to post your thoughts in the comments below!
