The lights are on
The 3DS version of Super Smash Bros. is getting an exclusive multiplayer mode for up to four players. Smash Run will set players on a race to power their characters up before engaging in final throwdown when time is up.
Smash Run puts players on a huge stage filled with enemies that drop power ups when they die. These enhance one of six stats: speed, jump, attack, special, arms, and defense.
During the first five minutes of the match, players will race around the stage as they try to make themselves as powerful as possible. Once the timer runs out, it’s a battle to the death in a more traditional Smash Bros. arena. Players will also be able to pick a loadout of items before they enter the fight.
Director Masahiro Sakurai says that the final battles won’t last too long, so players will be able to have a winner declared and start anew. This was a pleasant surprise.
Looks heavily inspired by Kid Icarus: Uprising's multiplayer, in addition to Kirby's Air Ride. I am very eager to try this mode out.
More and more, it's looking like SSB is going to be a milestone in competitive online multiplayer for Nintendo.
As I was watching this, I was thinking "OMG CITY TRIAL FROM AIR RIDE!". Then when Sakurai said it drew inspiration from Air Ride, I was like "OMG CITY TRIAL FROM AIR RIDE!". I really want to play this mode
It's pretty unique.
Wonder what the WiiU will get.
City trial was the best.
I'm not too keen on the whole 'exclusive this, exclusive that' business. I have both the 3DS and the Wii U, but I will only be buying the console version. I wish I didn't have to decide which I thought was better.
I loved City Trial! Spent so much time with that mode. I just know I'm gonna spend a great deal of time with Smash Run.
Sounds awesome. I loved City Trial in Kirby's Air Ride and also enjoyed Kid Icarus Uprising. This'll be a great addition.
This is gonna be fun as hell to play with the boys!
I have decided that I will be getting both pretty much because they are releasing at different times which might be why they are doing that. After playing the 3ds version it will be a nice refresh to play on the Wii U. And I'm still interested to see what the "secret connection" between the 2 versions will be.
Ooooh, this was the least enjoyable game types in the other smash bros in my opinion. It wasn't a platformer, and it wasn't a fighting game, these stages didn't really play well into smash's design.
