Ride Pokémon Through The Streets Of Lumiose City In The Latest X And Y Trailer

A number of new details (and a new trailer) have been unveiled for the upcoming Pokémon X and Y, including mountable non-water Pokémon, four new Pokémon, the game's region map, a new city, and the box art.

You can see the four newly unveiled Pokémon below, and see them in action with new attacks in the trailer below. Meet Helioptile, Gogoat, Fletchling, and Pancham.

Here are the details of the newest Pokémon, straight from Nintendo.

  • The cowardly Pokémon Helioptile, a Normal- and Electric-type Pokémon, can generate enough electricity through sunbathing to power machinery. But wise Trainers won’t be deterred by Helioptile’s lack of bravery. It knows Parabolic Charge, a brand-new move where Helioptile attacks everything around it. Helioptile's HP is restored by half the damage taken by those hit.
  • Fletchling, a Normal- and Flying-type Pokémon, sings with a beautiful chirp that is sure to delight any Trainer. Although it is known to be very friendly, Fletchling will suddenly unleash relentless attacks once it’s in battle. For example, when it uses its Fire-type move Flame Charge in battle, in addition to doing damage, Fletchling’s Speed increases every time.
  • With a leaf always in its mouth and an intimidating glare that is rarely effective, Fighting-type Pokémon Pancham shows its playful side when it lets out a little smile when its head is pat. Pancham can learn a brand-new move, Parting Shot, which not only lowers an opponent’s Attack and Special Attack, but also allows Pancham to switch out for another Pokémon in a Trainer’s party during battle.
  • Pokémon X and Pokémon Y introduce a new method of transportation—riding the brand-new Pokémon, Gogoat. This large Grass-type Pokémon is a reliable way to travel certain parts of Lumiose City. In battle, it can use Horn Leech to recover HP equal to half the damage dealt by this move.

The game's region map has also been unveiled. We already new the name of the region, Kalos, and now you can see what it looks like.

Pokémon X and Y are releasing globally in October, a first for the series. Usually, Japan gets a head-start on collecting new Pokémon, but not this time around. For more on X and Y, you can check out the original announcement trailer, an interview with Pokémon Company International's director of consumer marketing about the games, and an interview with Pokémon's Takao Unno and Junichi Masuda where we got answers to all of our most burning Pokémon questions, like "What happens inside a Pokéball?"

  • The bird is adorable and the lizard ain't half bad. This pair of games is looking to be better than Black/White but we'll see.
  • Those look like pretty decent designs overall. Making each successive generation of new Pokemon unique while keeping their designs consistent with the the aesthetics of the prior ones can't be easy. There were more than a few duds in the last batch from Black & White, but so far X & Y seems to be on the right track.
  • Day one purchase.
  • Oh man, I cannot wait for this. Pretty cool designs, I especially like Gogoat.
  • I like the art style, at least in that header pic.
  • This looks like the first major improvement upon the formula of the series since Ruby and Sapphire, at least in terms of visuals and exploration. Pokemon mounts certainly sounds exciting.

I just hope they bring back Pokemon being able to follow you. That was the best thing about SoulSilver and HeartGold, and I was extremely disappointed to see it not return in Gen. 5.
  • Fletchling is pretty good, Gogoat and Pancham are okay. Helioptile is creeping me out. Maybe it's the eyes...
  • I've never once played a Pokemon game. I guess the fad just skipped me, but now I kinda wanna try it and have no clue where to start... Suggestions?
  • On the Pokémon website, you can also see a few more extra things, like for the protagonists, you'll be able to change things like their hair and skin color, and even mentioning having different outfits, which is a pretty awesome bonus.
  • It's times like these that makes me wish I hadn't stopped playing Pokemon after Crystal. I don't miss smelling Pokemon card packages to see if I could sniff out holographics though.
  • The bird is one of the cutest things ever. I am certainly interested by the new Europe region.

  • I'm pretty excited for this, looks to be the best generation since G2, G3 and G4 were boring as hell, and B/W were fun, but this new one looks promising and innovative. I especially like gogoat and pancham. Can't wait for it to come out!
  • Well I want that goat thing now...I mean..its in a city..also fighting pandas...these new pokemon arnt too bad.

  • I'm so Pre-Ordering this (^_^)

  • They are never running out of ideas. Can't wait for this game!
  • i'm getting y i cant wait

  • I initially thought that everyone would get X. Pokemon X and Y are just really unimaginative names for game imo, but at least X sounds all right since it's used in other games (like Mega Man X). After seeing the box art for each though... now I see how they'll keep sales even.
  • Love the panda.
  • Too bad the Goat is the only one that looks interesting, the others almost fall into the stupid designs that Pokemon has been doing the last three gens...
