I'm from BKK Thailand. The gaming experiences I've had throughout my life have changed a lot.
When I was 7 years old,my parents bought an Amiga 500,and I played many games on it,the most memorable ones being Populous,Terminator 2,Purple Saturn Day,Mortal Kombat,Shadow of the Beast II,Crystals of Arborea,Metal Mutant.
My parents didn't buy me a games console until I was 10 years old,and my first console was an Atari 2600,which they bought for me in 1993 because it was cheap.I actually didn't enjoy gaming on the Atari 2600 because it's dated graphics/gameplay were too much.
I liked playing games at the arcades(especially Street Fighter games,Mortal Kombat series, and a whole heap of others),but unfortunately, the Amiga 500 had a terrible version of Street Fighter II and it was difficult to find arcade to Amiga conversions of my favorite arcade games,so often I had to blow my pocket money at the arcades instead of buying home versions of those games.
In 1994,my parents bought me a SEGA MEGA DRIVE(referred to a GENESIS in NA).And I loved it,and I still love and play classic MEGA DRIVE games once in a while.I loved the good MEGA DRIVE version of Street Fighter II,plus it was easy to find my other favorite arcade games such as Mortal Kombat games and Afterburner. I also loved the Sonic games on the MD,I actually preferred Sonic's speed over Mario.
My two favorite 16-Bit games are actually Phantasy Star 4 and Aladdin.I played a whole heap of fun titles on the MD such as GreenDog,Blades of Vengeance,Urban Strike,James Pond,Jungle Book,Lion King,Earthworm Jim,Cool Spot etc.
When I was 14 years old,my parents bought me a Playstation, and I was blown away by Final Fantasy VII.I also loved Breath of Fire 3 and 4,Tekken,and a whole heap of other games.
When I was old enough to work,I purchased a SNES to play all it's JRPGs,Donkey Kong Country and Mario.I also purchased a NES,Master System,Saturn,32X,MEGA CD and many other consoles, plus the occasional PC upgrade.
I must admit,I think video games peaked during the 6th gen.The likes of Final Fantasy X,Persona 3 and 4,Metal Gear Solid 2,Shenmue 1 and 2,Dragon Quest 8,Star Ocean TTEoT,Xenosaga series, Suikoden 3 and Resident Evil 4 reached a level that I think couldn't be surpassed.Hence I didn't love the 7th gen anywhere near as much as I loved the 6th gen.
That's why I'm yet to buy an 8th gen home console, because of the lack of JRPGs. I bought a VITA and 3DS and enjoy playing games on them.
As you noticed,I like to play JRPGs.That's because they often have creative plots and romances.I also like many visual novels, such as Clannad,Snow Sakura,Grisaia series,White Album 2,Crescendo,EVER 17 etc.
I was an active user on Gamespot known as 'ZanarkandTidus' for many years, until Gamespot experienced 'the great exodus'.
My blog herding mentions
To The Moon ReviewTidusandYuna1983 awards To The Moon a near perfect score, calling it "one of the most emotional and beautiful stories" he's ever experienced from any kind of media. That's a pretty powerful response.
