  • Bayonetta delivers insane action and amazing visuals.

    1

I'll admit that I was reluctant to pick up this title, considering that my back log of games was piling up on me.   But being a fan of over the top action, this game seemed too wild to pass up.  Only a handful of minutes into Bayonetta's story and I can honestly say that this game is more over the top than I could've ever expected.   It took all of five seconds (and a scene of the titular character standing completely still on chunk of a clock tower as it falls through the sky at high speed) for the hook to set and Bayonetta to reel me in.
The visual presentation compliments the game's very original brand of excitement.   Character models have fluid motion thanks to a solid frame rate (this is a review for the XBox 360 version.  The PS3 version had some frame rate issues, but there is a patch available).  The wild action sequences seem to jump right out of the screen and the landscapes couldn't look better.  Whether you're witnessing the beauty of Paradiso, taking a stroll through Purgatorio, or fighting for dear life in Inferno, the stunning level designs will captivate you through each stage.
One liners and general comical banter set the tone for the games voice acting, which never takes itself too seriously.  The sound effects of the battle sequences help deliver the reality-shattering attacks that Bayonetta  doles out on her foes.  Couple that with a soundtrack that couldn't be more fitting for a title like this and you have a match made in heaven.
Labeling Bayonetta as a typical button masher may not be entirely incorrect, but it manages to pull it off in a big way.  There is definitely a method to its control scheme's madness .  As you gain upgrades, your move set takes a turn from simple button mashing to well planned button combos  that trigger amazing attacks that are carried out using everything from feet guns, to iron maidens and guillotines, to making a giant stiletto heel out of hair to crush enemies.  Yes, you read that last part right.   A giant stiletto heal made out of Bayonetta's hair.  This game is as odd as it is over the top.
Like any good book, I found it hard to put this game down.  I had a very small amount of issues with it, such as a certain missile sequence taking a little longer than I wanted and finding it easy to get turned around when having to run on the sides of buildings.  These issues weren't so frustrating that it made the game annoying.  With a wide range of difficulty settings, it can either be very easy to approach or a total nightmare.  After clearing the game, you can start a "new game plus" in which all items and rankings you collected will carry over making it a game worth dominating over and over.  Bayonetta's crazy action, amazing visuals, and witty writing are enough to convince me that one play through this game just isn't enough.

  • Shooter with a sense of humor

I can't believe it took me this long to write a review for Borderlands.  The direction they took with the art might be my favorite part of this game.  It gives a refreshing take on FPS's.  The next best thing is the leveling process.  I've never seen such a smooth genre crossover.  Voice acting is good and the soundtrack is perfect for the setting.  It has that harmonica and slide guitar sound you would expect in a desert wasteland.  I've used all four characters and I have to say Lilith is my favorite.  Her phase-walking ability is extremely useful.  I recommend this to anyone who loves FPS's and RPG's alike.

  • Better than I though

This game is a clone, no doubt.  But it's still a great game.  If you're looking for nonstop action, this is the ticket.  Though I haven't finished the game, I'm still thoroughly impressed with it.  The beginning tosses you right into the bowels of epic!  The controls are very smooth and approachable.  The voice acting and soundtrack are very fitting for this title.  I recommend this game for anyone who has an  XBox 360 rather than a PS3.  Cause let's face it... if you can't play God of War 3, this will still quench you're blood thirst!  LONG LIVE WAR AND RUIN!!!

What the hell were they thinking?  Dead or Alive used to be a fun fighting game...  This is just weird.  But mostly pathetic!

  • Better than I could've expected!

I LOVE THIS GAME!  I had a set set of expectations and it fulfilled them all.  I wasn't going to get my hopes up too high, just incase it did turn out to be a flop.  The fact of the matter is that I don't understand the critisism of the narrative.  I actually really enjoy it.  Even though Hope can be whiny, I believe that's just his character.  I especially enjoy Sazh's wit and Vanille's attitude.  The graphics are spectacular.  The actual gameplay looks better than some cutscenes from other RPGs.  The soundtrack is refreshing and fits the game very well.  But I'm most impressed with the new paradigm battle system.  It's as complex as it needs to be and is very user friendly.  The only issue I've had so far is when my 360 scratched my first disc.  I got a new copy and kept on going strong!  I haven't liked a game this much since Fable 2.
