The lights are on
How many of you guys like Tetris? Me? I LOVE IT! A few weeks ago I was playing Tetris Party on the Wii and tried to dominate my mediocre score of over 65,000. Just hours before I left for Charleston S.C. for my brother's wedding, I chalked up a score of over 140,000. I was ecstatic! I told my brother about it the night before the dinner rehearsal. He was so damn proud of me! (He's my only sibling/older brother) That was on a Thursday. That Sunday when I came back home, I knocked it out at 167,703. I still feel like a world class chump after seeing this guy after the 3:00 mark... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jwC544Z37qo
I've been playing through Final Fantasy XIII and enjoying it, except for a few factors. Is it just me, or should a Final Fantasy sequel be linear as opposed to it's prequel? I think Final Fantasy XIII should've been open world and it's sequel should've been linear. Secondly, I really think the whole "gather monsters pokemon style" would've been better reserved for said linear sequel. I'm just saying. Alright... Quick Blog out!

Martinez, Ga... Martinez Elementary School... 1989... after the last bell. Here comes the rush! As soon as I get outside of school , my mom will be waiting there to pick me up and take me back to the house. Back to a safe haven where I could ignore homework, play my new NES, and watch...VIDEO GAME CARTOONS! Hot damn, what a combo. The two greatest things ever, blended into one half hour journey through an animated romp around the ol' imagination. Monday through Thursday, I could always count on the Super Mario Bros. to deliver a backed up plumbing system full of pain on the Koopa clan. Friday afternoons, Link was there to deliver enough whiny complaints to make this then 5 year old cringe in his Keds. The super Mario Brothers Super Show was clever for it's time and had a great way to mix Super Mario Bros. 1 and 2 sound effects and themes. Captain Lou Albano really had me buying into the notion that Super Mario had a rough and tumble personality. How else would a grown man show no fear in the face of giant/ evil turtles. Don't kid yourself. You and I both know that if you saw a mushroom with menacing eyes and feet, you wouldn't think twice about running in the opposite direction rather than jumping on it. Friday would eventually come, and I couldn't wait for The Legend of Zelda cartoon. I may have had some issues with the fact that Link was a real tool box, but the sheer fact that The Legend of Zelda had a cartoon show was enough to keep me in front of the TV. Now that I'm older, a few questions come to mind about some of the beloved Nintendo cartoon shows. Why did Link and Zelda have their Triforce pieces follow them like so much house pet? Why did the intro of the Super Mario Bros. Super show intro show Mario turning into Fire Mario after touching a Super Star ? And, WHY WAS MEGA MAN GREEN IN CAPTAIN N?! It's like whoever was in charge of Nintendo's cartoon production was the same delusional goon in charge of designing the cover to the first Mega Man. On a side note, I did like the Super Mario Bros. 3 show a lot. Also, wasn't there a character named Oogtar in the Super Mario World cartoon?
My last post was titled "Storage shed wonders". I was intending to start a blog about cool gaming products that I found in a storage shed my dad was using. Well, it's all cleaned out now. And aside from the gameboy and a joystick I used to use when I played Wing Commander, I didn't find anything else gaming related. It couldn't last forever, could it. It wasn't a very big shed. I DID, however, find a really big spider that made me jump about 20' straight up. Phobias aside, I have decided to rename this blog " A gamer's nostalgia". It's a chance for me to share some pretty cool game related moments from my life with the Game Informer community. I would also love to hear about some of your favorite moments in gaming in the comments section. Now, let's get down to brass tacks. I'm starting this one off with a bang. One of my personal favorite games of all time is The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past. And for good reason. I happened upon this gem in 1996 (just the beginning of my middle school years...ugh). Some friends and I had just left from a relatively mediocre Columbia County Fair, and I ended up getting dropped of at my house. My dad and brother showed up at the house around the same time I did, and they had a Babagge's bag with them. You remember Babbage's, right? No? It's cool. I won't judge you. Anywhoo, my dad gave me the bag, and said "I got this for you. They had Super Nintendo games for $10 and figured this was one you might like." I reached in an grabbed the plastic-wrapped copy of A Link to the Past. Now this is one of the many time that I got light headed over receiving a new game, but this one definitely sticks out because I wasn't expecting it at all. Once I gained my composure, a ran up to my room to get my SNES. I wanted to hook it up in the living room because I felt the bigger "living room" T.V. would do it more justice than my set. I could not get the cartridge in fast enough. I got chills watching the intro scene, I marveled at the superior 16-bit Zelda experience, I walked around Link's house for way too long, and I got mad because they killed Link's uncle...just right off the bat, those mothers. One of the best moments in my first playthrough was the realization that after gathering the first three pendants, the game had only just begun. This game was everything I had hoped for and more. That's why I still play it to this day. Also, on a side note: Finally, I could shoot arrows and all it cost me was arrows instead of rupies! Surely, only a genius or a mad man could have come up with that idea.
Several weeks ago I had promised my Dad that I would meet him for breakfast and then help him clean out the storage shed. Last Saturday we put this
