I first was introduced to Video Games when my Mother bought me a NES when I was in the third grade and quickly developed an interest in gaming. I would spend hours playing Super Mario Brothers and Duck Hunt with my younger sister only to be yelled at by my folks to go play outside. I didn't have the patience for such games as The Legend of Zelda, but I would watch my friends play it. A few years later I got a SNES and it came with Mario All-Stars. Also there was Mario Kart and with that, gaming became solidified in my life. Playing Mario Kart with my siblings and friends remains to be some of the most fun I've had playing video games to this day.
In middle school I got a Nintendo 64 for my birthday and was stoked. The games I played most were Super Mario 64, Mario Kart 64, Golden Eye, Perfect Dark, and Primal Rage, and Super Smash Brothers. Getting to see all my favorite Nintendo characters beating the fecal matter out of each other made my little geek heart soar.
A few years later, while in High School, the Nintendo Gamecube was released. You could say that Nintendo and I were childhood friends. So imagine my absolute joy when I heard about a new Super Smash Brothers. While I enjoyed and played a lot of the previous Nintendo games, Super Smash Brothers was the first game I became obsessed with. I would come up with combos and strategies and names for them. My friends soon adopted them as well. The names included Kirby's "My Butt is My Power!" strategy, that involved heavily on his power to turn into a solid object, and also Link's "Sweep the Leg" strategy that uses a combos of grabs, low attacks, and his signature spin move.
The first time I played a Playstation was a complete disaster. I had just moved into my new Step Dad's home and his son, my Step Brother, had one. I sat on the corner of his bed and played a zombie game called Resident Evil. Since the controls were unfamiliar and slow. I spent most of my time shooting wildly, running out of ammo, and screaming. After about 20 minutes, I was walking down a long hallway, and suddenly Zombie arms burst through a window and grabbed my character. I jumped back so hard that I fell off the bed, holding the controller with me, thus pulling the Playstation of the dresser it was stationed at and broke into a few pieces on the floor. I tried hard to avoid them after that.
Throughout my early years to my high school years, I had a few experiences with gaming on the PC but not many. I was a big fan of the Red Alert games and Counter Strike as well, and played a little bit of Quake and Doom.
After a few months after the release of the Xbox, I finally bought my first console that was not a Nintendo. I played Halo and was really bad at it. I wasn't familiar with the controller. It was huge and awkward to hold (that's what she said). After a couple LAN Parties, I got a little better and I wasn't tea-bagged as often.
Today, I have an Xbox 360, Playstation 3, and Wii. I am happy with all of them, but I spend the majority of Xbox Live. I enjoy games that enable me to play games with my friends. My current favorites are the Left 4 Dead series, the Modern Warfare series, Mass Effect, Assassins Creed, Elder Scrolls, and Fallout 3. I also like games that dare to do something different, like Portal and Mirror's Edge (but Portal was much better).
I subscribe to Game Informer and keep watch of various Gaming related news. I have always enjoyed writing so I will be using the blog as an outlet for some of my opinions. I will also try to post the occasional review.
