Hello everyone, this is the Grouchy old dude and to be frank this next blog is really gonna show my age. So you have been warned.

Well anyway today me and my lovely wife of 14 years were strolling the aisles of the local Wally World (That's Wal-mart to those that don't know.) I was going to the electronic section to finally pick up that lone copy of Monster Hunter for the wii. Let me tell you, I have had my eye on that game for a while, I just haven't purchased it yet.  Mainly because I never had the extra moolah, or I was too busy to swing through and pick it up. Today I said "No more I am getting this game!" Focused with a steeled determination I was freaking Bound and determined to purchase the game!

Then darn it something happened.

 Something caught my eye...The display.(sigh)

It was strange how this seemingly simple display drew me closer like a siren draws her sailors to their untimely death. Alone, below a rather plain white billboard marked five dollars was a immense  over flowing vat of Compact Discs.

I couldn't help myself I had to look. I still don't know why, I haven't purchased a CD much less thought about them since The Soundtrack of "OH BROTHER WHERE ART THOU?" movie.

 But here I stood musing at the eclectic mix of artists: Meatloaf, Gladys Night, Air supply,and many more just peacefully lying in wait hoping someone would purchase them. Like puppies in a pet shop window each one begging "pick me".

Who would purchase these archaic symbols of the X-generation? Nowadays people have Mp3's and computer radio stations not to mention stuff like Sony's music unlimited. CD's are deader than Disco wrapped in a Atari 2600 cartridge. Why was I drawn to this tub of decadence?

 To tell you the truth it's ironic that people don't lament the loss of CD's, but yet they complain when games go digital.Go figure.  I suppose it's because we still have (for better or worse) LP's, cassettes, 8tracks(yes radio stations still use them.) and God forbid AM RADIO!!!

We prefer to listen to music in a flawed state. We want to hear crackles in recording and soft hums from backgrounds unknown. All those imperfections give music a soulful, beautiful sound. Me personally I really couldn't give a rats behind.

If I like the song I will listen on any format, but I prefer to listen from a CD because the music is clear. No extra soul included just music. To me that's the best way to listen. Free from any distraction that way I can focus on the important stuff. Be it the way a person slides their
fingers on the neck of the guitar or listening to lyrics and what the artist is trying to convey. CD'S do this perfectly soulless and I love them for it.
 
I love CD's, one of my favorite things about CD's is the paper insert. The smell of the paper insert reminds me of El Paso taco shells (pre-cooked). What can I say I'm strange lol. But that's not the only reason I love CD's there shiny too, (No wait that's not reason.
arrgh)

Actually I like the sound and perfection they offer. They also symbolize a era of cheap humour, bad clothes, even worse rap,and God help us grundge music. I still haven't figured out what made Nirvana or Kirk Cobain so magic or thought provoking. The only good thing that came from Nirvana was the Weird 'Al' Yankovic cover "Smells like Nirvana" That was a good song.

Even now as I stare at the bin I realize this, "All good things must come to a end." Now we have MP3, Blue Ray, and Cloud storage  and who knows what will come next? I don't have a freaking clue? Thank goodness we have the freaking internet to tell us and ruin the surprise.

Did you know they quit making encyclopeadia Britanica in book form? "No worries we have a internet site." This will do In the meantime. Thats a load of "B.S"and they know it. Really though, Why do I care if they get rid of these books and round shiny discs that have paper inserts that smells like taco shells?

Heck I don't know? It could be age creeping up on me.  It could be me raging against growing old. That's got to be it I mean me and CD'S have been around for the same amount of time. If CD's are out of style and time, what does it say about me; one of the champions of the shiny plastic disc with its taco shell smell? How dare they classify this symbol of the "future" as a useless part of history.

It made a difference! And so do I! I AM NOT DEAD YET! I will be here for a very long time complaining and guiding and screwing up. So will CD's. So in the meantime what do we do?

Yes, in the meantime were stuck with this wonderful bin of history.  Well needless to say I didn't buy the Wii Monster Hunter with controller.

I found something  better to spend my money on.
