I'm a college freshman and at the moment attend Binghamton University. Like every good college freshman, I've already changed my major and made a myriad of foolish choices. My major change went from Latin to Writing. But even as I change, my interest for gaming hasn't diminished. Here's a little review of my life gaming.
My first gaming memory- I begged my mother for an N64 because I saw a commercial for The Legend of Zelda Majora's Mask. I love that game. I'm going to get skull kid tattooed on my upper back some day.
The N64 was a great time for me. I loved Banjoo & Kazooie, Jet Force Gemini, and Perfect Dark along with Majora's Mask and they encompass my first thoughts on gaming.
After that came the PS2. This was my first foray into the RPG, a genre that dominates my games today. I played Baldur's Gate Dark Alliance and thought dungeon crawling and stealing the loot from my brothers was perhaps the most satisfying activity ever. Along with that I most fondly remember God Of War, Ratchet and Clank, and Jak and Daxter.
I split time between my mother and father. My dad got the XBOX almost to spite my mother. Halo reigned supreme. However my father wasn't actually that into video game consoles. So other than that, it seemed that I only played Madden with him.
My father however did love the PC. That was an introduction I'll never forget. Civilization, Rome Total War, and Age of Empires were dominant in my household. Civilization is an experience that often has me up until four in the morning. I love how the PC brings these games into the future, and are updated. Civ 5 and the total war series are still some of my favorite games.
I went to live with my mother, and she got the 360. Gaming was forever changed in my mind. Halo 3, Oblivion, Fallout, Mass Effect, Gears of War, Bioshock, Marvel vs. Capcom 3, Dragon Age: Origins, and my love hate relationship with Borderlands stand out over this great console generation. I've beaten DA 9 times, ME1 and ME2 4 times, spent a combined time of upwards of 600 hours between Oblivion, Fallout 3, and FNV.
I'm now looking to further expand myself with a new gaming laptop I got for college. With Battlefield 3, Skyrim, Kingdoms Of Amalur, and Arkham City on the horizon, I can barely contain my excitement.
Gaming has never looked so interesting
